A friend of ours has asked me to care for his son during the school holidays.

I have never cared for a child with special needs before and am not sure if I need to receive any additional info/training/permissions etc?

Can anyone help please?

You don't need anything extra in terms of policies etc.

However, you will need to ask the parents extra questions about the child's likes, dislikes etc and ways to clue into his interests.

You might also do a risk assessment depending on his moods and consider how you will manage him with other children if that might be an issue.

hth :D

If there are any workshops or training available in your area, I would def reccommend attending one.

I was at a speech given by a professional in the area of Autism, yesterday and learnt so much in just 2 hours.

Good luck
