wet, wet, wet

Hi

I mind a Nigerian boy who's 3 and a half. I have to change his trousers at least 3 times each afternoon, as he never either takes himself to the toilet or tells me when he needs to go, he just does it wherever he is and it doesn't seem to bother him being wet (can't be comfortable!) When I try to ask him why he just says "I want to" and that's all he says and laughs. I've spoken to his mum and she says he doesn't do that at home and I spoke to his nursery who also say he just takes himself off to the toilet when he needs to (tho he was soaked through when I picked him up today) I really don't know what to do to help him. I keep rushing him to the loo, even when he says he doesn't want to go, to empty his bladder! He'll have a wee in the toilet, put his trousers back on, then about 5 mins (sometimes less) later, he's sodden! This isn't right is it? He's not a great communicator, he's a very very quiet boy, but if he's only doing it at my house - WHY?

Does he really not do it at home (or could mum just be saying this incase shes embarassed (I know parents tell me things about there children (like oh they eat everything and love this and love that - when you try them they spit it out with disgust--parents want you to think they eat healthy this is just an example)

Why not speak to mum and ask does she take him to toilet at certain time IE every half hour etc...theres got to be a reason hes doing it at yours and not anywhere else..

Im new to all this so im sure someone more experienced will be along soon.

Ooh no idea either sorry! I'd be thinking about a urine infection? And if I were his mum I'd be a little concerned as to why this was happening?

I wonder if the nursery actually see him go to the toilet or if they assume he 'just takes himself' I would guess that he probably doesn't go at nursery.

I also have a 3 1/2 yo who isn't reliable at telling me he needs or if he's wet but he is the same at home but never uses the loo at nursery.

Could you get some stickers and encourage him by praise(and bribery!:D ) to go or ask to go?

I look after I little girl age 4 who used to be dry most of the time but for the last 8month has been wet most days we have tried star carts , rewards talking to her doctor has now refered her to a behavior specialist,bit OTT? Mum treats her like an adult,and expects too much. I think it is attention seeking but hey I am only a childminder what do I know.:rolleyes:
