can anyone recommend one? Ive decided to start trying to ditch the bright garish plastic toys in favour of better quality wooden ones that will stand the test of time. I currently have a fisher price little people one but Ive decided to sell on my fisher price stuff so will get rid of the garage too so I need to find a replacement.

Seen this one in John Lewis which looks ok but could do with some to compare against

That looks really nice!

My only suggestion for "car play" (although probably not to your taste if you're looking to upgrade), is a piece of drainpipe that I bought from BandQ! The kids lean it on the sofa or on a toy box and zoom the cars down. They make duplo bridges for the cars to go through and then build towers of wooden blocks for the cars to crash down....hours of fun!

my friend has that one! but her 'lift' if often out of order :D

it seems to withstand a fair amount of play, BUT, my friend isn't a minder, so only 1 or 2 children most of the time.

i had this garage and its not worth the money, wood dents , paint chips ,and lift broke ,plastic fisherprice one is better along with tubes and pipes.I invested in numerous wooden toys last year and they all look fit for the bin ,and the children i look after respect the toys.

This is my son's favourite. It was his idea, he asked his Grandad for some guttering when he was building their summer house.

Have you seen this one?

We have the toys r us one. It is a very simple one, nothing really on it to break and it works well with all the wooden railway stuff. I was worried initially cos it didn't feel as robust as the little people one I have but it is over two years old, is in constant use and looks fine (if you ignore the yellow pen on it lol).
We also have their farm yard and some castles. The castles I cannot recommend if you have heavy handed kids, and you will need to glue them together anyway cos it is a nightmare to keep clipping them back. The farm though, again is very basic and has worked well over the 2 years we have them. I have a severely autistic boy, a little princess girl, an enthusiastic boy and a whirlwind girl who have done their best but the toys have prevailed. :clapping:

me too!!
I like the look of the one from Toysrus as it is fairly basic and looks to be less breakable (I think) and not expensive. The John Lewis one looks good too, whilst the ELC one seems overpriced in my opinion.
I like the idea about using lengths of guttering for ramps and duplo bridges etc...very creative, thanks.

the £19.99 from toys r us was rubbish it didn't withstand even 6 months of my daughters playing with it. I've gone back to the basic old fisherprice garage that was mine!!!! I explain to parents that the stickers are pealing but its the best garage ever

I bought the argos one when it was £17 but I really wanted the Plan Toys one which is the same as the one from john lewis but couldn't justify the extra money.
I would have the john lewis one if you want to spend the money it really is great and goes well with all brio type road and rail track, we have one at our children centre and its survived so far.
