Has anyone got any good craft and/or activities for St Patricks Day? All the ones Ive found are a bit advanced for my lot. (between the ages of 1yr and 3yrs!) Cant even find any good books!

My only idea so far is to make an Irish flag.

Ive also bought some clover shaped sticky bits!

Have a look on

www.crayola.com there were some ideas there you need to register but it's free

www.dltk-kids.com go to holidays then st pats day

We do things like rainbows
cut out shamrock shapes and decorate with green tissue paper
cut out pictures of all things green and make a collage (you can do this with fruit and veg on a paper plate as part of healthy eating
make leprachauns see www.makingfriends.com for bodies and clothes
cut out a cauldron shape and some gold circles stick them on cauldron for pot of gold

Hope that helps

Happy St. Patrick's Day
(tune I'm a Little Teapot")

I'm a little leprechaun
Dressed in green,
The tiniest man
That you have ever seen.
If you ever catch me, so it's told,
I'll give you my pot of gold.

Five Green Shamrocks

1 green shamrock, in the morning dew,
Another one sprouted, and then there were two.

2 green shamrocks, growing beneath a tree;
Another one sprouted and then there were three.

3 green shamrocks, by the cottage door;
Another one sprouted, and then there were four.

4 green shamrocks, near a beehive
Another one sprouted, and then there were five.

5 little shamrocks, bright and emerald green,
Think of all the luck these shamrocks will bring.

We have a green day

- ask parents if children can wear or bring something green (working in partnership)
- mix green shades of paint (Creative Development) and use it to make a picture
- find green plants in the garden and see if we can find out their names (Knowledge and Understanding of the world) - be careful of ivy!
- cut and stick / colour shamrocks and count the leaves (Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy)
- make up a story about leprechauns with younger children acting out parts - I include rainbows and pots of gold in the story (Communication, language and literacy)
- shop together and help prepare a healthy green snack (Personal, social and emotional development)
- set up a 'pot of gold' hunt in the garden using a gold chocolate coin for each child and play the 'hot / cold' game to find it (Physical Development). Not exactly green but it's fun!

Hope there's something useful there! :D
