Hi everyone

This is my first post and I was hoping someone can help me please.

I am pregnant and due to give birth in June this year. I am looking to take maternity leave approx. 1 month before I am due, and I want to start minding from September onwards. I get approx 4 1/2 months of maternity pay at full pay and a further 6 months at SMP.

I was wondering whether anyone knows if I am still entitled to work (childminding) when in receipt of maternity pay? My first thoughts are that I would have to quit my job (& maternity pay) to start childminding but I wasn't sure??

I understand I would also need to repay the company I work for any maternity pay (paid by them, not the government) if I do not return to work.

Thanks for your answers in advance :)

I would direct you to the job centre as their departments within are trained with specialists in this area.

Would hate to give wrong information

My contract states that I am not allowed to work for anyone else, or become self employed whilst on mat leave.
And you only need to pay back any maternity pay that is over and above the SMP that you're entitled to, assuming that is written in your contract.
Think you need to check your contract.
Good luck with whatever!

I am in process of registering as childminder. I am currenty on maternity leave, I am also unsure about this. My mat pay finishes at the end of feb, so I am going to give my notice in for then and just hope I get some mindees right away. I also work for goverment and have to pay back some money. They said they will look at my current income (which could be nothing:panic:) and come to some arrangment of a monthly payment.
