how many units of alcohol you consume each week and if you take recreational drugs?

Both these questions were asked of a friend during her inspection recently.

I wasn't asked but my friend says the inspector told her they had to ask

ooo i think that's really nosey of them, i know minders care for little un's but nursery nurses aren't asked!!!

I've been reading up in depth on fostering and they ask you about your sex life and everything, really personal questions, they say it's in case a teenager asks for advice!!!!! etc, way to personal for me lol.

My OFSTED inspector asked me if I drank, smoke or dabbled in any illicit substances and this is going back 3 years.
I was a bit taken aback but I can't drink, and don't do the others thru choice.

When Nige adopted Harry ,the social worker asked all sorts of questions  and I mean all sorts!!
They say they have to build up an "accurate" picture if your relationship and your views to be able to decide if your are "fit".
I even had to go over my previous marraige with her, would have been so easy to tell her he was a lying, cheating scumbag, but we didn' t think she had much of a sense of humour.:panic:

Obviously don't drink with the children but what I do out of hours is my business.

She also mentioned drugs, don't even take asprin so couldn't manage the hard stuff

As for the nookie well, I bet they're saving that for next time

Well Tasha having met you at the policy workshop i can quite understand why:laughing: Perhaps it was the hip flask that you offered round after we stopped you dancing on the tables.

Cant wait until my inspection now. Im suprised they dont ask what colour underwear we wear. I dont drink at all and i would be offended to be asked if I take drugs as that is against the law isnt it. No i dont steal cars and go joy riding either, i dont mug people, or shop lift. I think my inspector will get a curt answer if they go down the drugs route.

You have to answer this on your medical questionnaire, so ofsted should know the answer anyway by the time you have your pre reg

Sorry to rock the boat but I think they are entitled to know. I wouldnt want someone who took recreational drugs at weekends looking after my child during the week.

The alcohol... not so interested in, so long as my child wasnt attending the morning after a very heavy session and the childminder was still drunk

I think a glass or two of wine is fine of an evening. Im a terrible bunge drinker on a night out but would always make sure I wasnt working the morning after so alcohol isnt really the important question

I just got asked were I keep the alcohol, which I had moved outside to the shed the week before my inspection usually locked in a cupboard in the house!!

I drink but not the day before having children I couldn't cope with a hangover and children!!

My inspector asked this question....as you know I was inspected at the end of January.

She also asked me where I stored the alcohol.

Banana what are recreational drugs? Are people allowed to take them by law?

I would not want my child looked after someone who down loaded child porn, but they dont ask that do they. They know we have no drug record as we have all been checked.

Twinkles and i watched a minder half term week in the Wacky car park strap her mindees into the car with a fag in her mouth and then get in still smoking and drive off. This is against the law do they ask you about smoking though?:panic:

I don't know the full details but sadly I think a childminder was drunk and in charge of a child and the child died :(

My friend said the inspector told her it was a childminder who was registered for overnight care who had a drinking session then got in the bath with a little mindee who was staying the night - the childminder fell asleep in the bath and the mindee died (I didn't ask but presumed she drowned)

But to me the questions are pointless because no one will tell the trruth it just means ofsted have covered their back if anything happens.

Recreational drugs... are any drugs which you take in your free time as a kind of hobby - I suppose you would call it. When you use them in your recreational time. So using coccaine on a night out, pills, smoking cannabis in leisure time etc...

Basically asking if we are using illegal substances. Not that they would be likely to get an honest answer from a drug user because nobody is ever really open about taking drugs. Still, they have to ask the question.

Got in the bath with a mindee? I wouldn't dare! I'd like to take mindees swimming but don't think I would - you've got to be careful around kids these days? My grandad wouldn't even take my daughter (who was 6 months at the time) into the gents when he was in town and asked a lady attendant in the loos to watch her while he had a pee!

I was asked on one my pre reg as I don't drink (Well once or twice a year and then only one or two - except for after my last inspection when parent turned up with a bottle of baileys and said are we celebrting or comisserating and we drank the whole bottle lol) adn asked me if I was sure when I said I didn't drink!!!!!!!

I agree with you that I wouldn't want someone who took drugs or was a raving alcoholic (sorry not aPC term but used to describe rather than look down on someone who is - sorry I'm babbling I will shut up) but then again would they tell the truth anyway to Ofsted

Look I'm a 46 year old Irish woman and I like a driunk But I hate the feeling of being drunk so I feel that so long as I ahve a drink when the mindees have gone home what the hec so long as I'm fit for work the next day. I never drink in the day so thats not a problem and I stop when I've had enough which is sooooo much less than it used to be. I usually can't stay awake loong enough. I either take alcohol and sleep or stayh dry and stay alert - I'm just too old now.

As for drugs I only take the ones the doc prescribes and even then I'm no good at swollowing them.

I believe it is their business and yes somethimes we have to lie because the odd week we mmight go over the RDA but for god sake I'm sure the inspectoer does too.

I was asked on my pre registration if I drink and how much and if I take drugs!
I said don't know how many units I drink a week as I might not drink for months at a time and then I may have one or 2, i dunno!
So she put me down for 1 unit a week!
