I thought I had pretty much got myself clued up on obs and planning etc, but just got a new starter (in reception class) and ready to start doing the obs and planning, but looking at the literature I've got, it says I need to be clear on the child's 'starting point'.

What is this???

Her stage of development - what she can do now, in each of the areas of learning.

This is so you can plan what the child needs in order to move them on to the next stage developmentally.

That made me laugh!

Welcome to the joys of endless paperwork.

Top tip - talk to the parents - they'll give you most of the information you need for this and you can check it against what you think too and agree with them what to do next - working in partnership covered too! :D
