How does the care commission view assistants? Would i be able to increase my numbers if i put my mum on as my assistant? need an extra space for an after school child. Also bad weather she could stay in house with small ones so they dont gat soaked.

Thanks, sometimes I think the care commission should bring out a rule book with answers to questions like these.:panic:

Assistants can be left with signed parental permission in England... think you need to ring the Care Commission for Scottish rules! :D

Think she means her own mom

I would follow the advice from Sarah and give the care commision a call - it might be different to England anyway so best to make sure

I asked Ofsted if I could have my mum and dad as my emergency contacts, they said it was OK, to get them police checked and then put them down as assistants so that they could be left with the children in an emergency.

Hi,

My hubby is my assitant but it doesnt increase the numbers as it depends on the available space you have for childminding. If you get the parents to sign a policy that their child can be left with your assistant then as far as I was told its only for 30mins and no more and really only for an emergency.

An assistant is just really an extra pair of hands.

We've never been given any specific time that he (hubby assistant) can be left with the children and the inspector was aware that he takes and collects children from school/nursery which takes longer than 30 minutes. especially in the summer when they want to stop off and play on the park on the way back. :)
