Is it really worth it?
Applying for a 20 minute variation, for 8 days a month?

It would typically be at this time that something happened and your insurance wouldn't cover, you really have to do it I'm afraid

There is a rumour going round here that ofsted allow a 30 mins discressionary overlap anyway so a variation wouldn't be needed? However, I would still apply as I think this definately is a RUMOUR and not fact.

I've just applied for a variation for 1 hour 15 minutes as a one off while the kiddies start school but not full time. I know how you feel, why bother for such a small amount of time, but the already mentioned law will always bite your bum when you least expect it!

This is a rumour.

It is wrong.

If you go over numbers at any time it is considered a serious incident and you must ring Ofsted to explain what has happened.

Plus you would not be insured :D

I would think of it the other way is it worth risking your registration for 20 mins.
