can anyone tell me if a child has their birthday in the 1st week of Jan, before school starts back, does their free nursery funding start in the January term or the term after easter?

Funding is available the first term after their third birthday - so it would be easter I would think.

I don't think the Jan term officially starts till the 4th Jan so she should get funding from Jan if her birthday is before.
You need to check you start dates on your local education authority web site, in our area term starts on the 4th but school starts on the 5th for some because the 4th is a training day. My understanding is that the 3rd birthday would have to be before the 4th to qualify for funding in the spring term.
