Hi All

Research question again!

You are now all offical experts for my research project!!!

Past research identified that the majority of parents using childminder worked full-time in professional or managerial jobs.

Does this sound like your parents? What kinds of jobs do they do? Has anyone found this to be totally wrong?

I think this could be a dated comment and would love your epert opinions!

At present one is a teacher,
another a dental nurse.
Majority have been teachers, lecturers or mums who want a bit of space!!!

I have -

1 self employed artist - part time;

1 Vet - part time;

1 roofer - full time (older child so before and after school);

1 hotel conference manager - full time (older child again);

1 Starbucks waitress - part time;

In the past I have cared for the children of teachers, students, young parents, people referred by social services etc.

Yes for me it has been true, my main parents are fulltime doctors and 1 nurse during past few years :)

The other is a fulltime manager in Inland revenue, in between i have had 2 part time non professional roles :)

Dr (Mum) - Full time - LONG HOURS!!!!

The rest have been for mums that basically want there own time & are "housewives" - these have all been part time except one who was full time.... HTH:)

Wrong.

One is part-time rota work as a nurse.
One is two full days a week.
Two start college in Sept and don't like the look of the creche provided.

Mine are mainly before and after school though the teaching assistant is part time but from 8.30am-12.30am.

MIne .... Starting with the first child I had -

So I think for me, it is a bit of both, but it is generally anyone, definately not jsut professional types.

Previously:

Teachers, office work, police officers, accountants (lots!) doctors, Arts council, Charity administrators, nurses, dental nurse, baker, translator, carpenter for the Houses of Parliment, journalist and civil servants.

That's a huge generalisation - think there are many other factors which could influence whose children you look after like where you live, who the major employers are (if any) in the area.

Yes, I've looked after the children of professional people but also students, casual workers and those who don't work at all.

At the moment i have

a graphic designer. Mum works 4 days but is giving it up as she travels to far and wants to be with the children. The dad races sailing boats around the work so is home some weeks and then away for a few.

A mum who does her cleaning and gets other things done while i look after her daughter i day a week.

I have had a mum who works in a pub (bar staff)
one mum who was a student
one mum who was a SS referral for respite (she didn't work)
1 dad who work for a telecommunications company and his wife work in social care

I actually use a childminder myself as well while I do my weekly student bit!

I have had a child in the past who's mum was a teacher and 2 other children who's mum was a student nurse.

Child 1: Mum is manager of homeless charity and Dad runs cables for a communications company.

Child 2: Mum is a teaching assistant and dad works from home and sells boilers

Child 3 and 4: Mum is a full time care assistant and dad is a long distance lorry driver.


So think that the times have changed!
