I am not sure I beleive this but I am typing it so it must be true :(

An hour ago my beloved Ben, who was as mad as a brush and only this morning drove me to distraction by crapping on the kitchen floor!! Has died.

He chased a pick up down our track and then ran into the farm, collapsed on the floor and was gone !!!

He was 11yrs old and had had a good life, we rescued him when he was just 11months old.

Normally when I sit on the pc, Ben is laying next to me and the office feels soooo empty.

I am not sad, not really, just blubbing for britain

So if you have a drink tonight, can you raise a glass to Ben the Border Collie. the daftest dog known to mankind. Much loved and much missed

Aww so sad Flora, poor Ben. Im sure he had a fab life with you though. Things will be strange for a while til you get used to him not being around - very hard when he sounds like such a character!
He will always be with you though - take it from me having lost most of my huge menagerie in the last five years.
Ive lost count of the number of memorial plants and bushes planted in their memory but each one tells a story.
Take care and enjoy your crap free kitchen floor!:group hug: :group hug:

sending you hugs x x i will raise my glass to him tonight x x

My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

thanks you everyone and thank you Hebs for reducing me to tears

Ben is, no was the quietest of all the three dogs but always made his presence felt in some way or another.

The place just seems empty. I have moved his bowl and his collar is in the desk drawer in the office.

We will bury him in the field tomorrow:( although it will have to be the top field as he hated the bottom one: too many thistles.

Typically the kids are already talking about a "new bennie" fortunately we are in a position to rescue another dog so who knows. Poor ****** isn't even buried and they are replacing him

The kids wanting to replace him, is probably their way of dealing with it. We lost our rabbit last month, the Lo's I mind (only 1 year old) keep looking in the empty hutch for her!! The older ones keep asking when are we geeting another!
Have raised my glass- Here's to Ben, Flora's beloved, rest in peace!:)

So sorry that you've lost Ben.

We had a border collie who's favourite thing in the world was chasing cars - so much so that she pulled me into the road one day and I ripped my new jeans  They are lovely dogs though and I'm sure you'll miss him loads.

At least he died quickly doing something he really loved and he'll be having fun in doggy heaven now.

Oh no Flora, I am so very sorry.
We've had Borders our whole life, and loosing a faithful friend is utterly dreadful. Any consolation can be taken from the fact that he went so very swiftly, he wouldn't have known anything about it.

........................

I Stood Beside Your Bed Last Night

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
"Its me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here"

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.
I want to take your parcels, I wished I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house as you fumbled for the key,
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me".

You looked so very tired and then you sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

Its possible for me to be so near you everyday,
to say to you with certainty "I never went away".

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew
That in the stillness of that evening I was very close to you.

The day is over.... I smile and watch you yawning
and say, " Good Night, Sweet Dreams, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning".

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide
I'll rush to greet you and well stand together side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out; then come home and be with me.

I'm not sure who wrote it, I found it on the DogLost website. It is a peom very dear to me, and it has helped in the last 7 years in which I still struggle over loosing my dearest and closest friend; Sky - my Blue Merle Border Collie. The bestest girl in the world.
