Hi,

i'm getting my way through the paperwork involved in registration (i'm in Scotland so use the Care Commission) and it asks for a premises risk assessment. can anyone give me advice on the type they are looking for. i've found some brilliant sites with examples but just wanted to check i'm doing the right thing.

Many thanks for any help or advice!

Your premises risk assessment basically needs to show that you have considered...

1. The risk

2. Who is at risk - parents, children, you etc

3 What might happen

4. how serious the risk might be - you can grade it 1 = low to 5 = life threatening or high / medium / low

5. The steps you have taken to minimise the risk - the things you have put in place

So...

The risk - stairs

Who - child

what might happen - falls

how bad a risk? - medium

Minimise - use a stair gate

You can look at everything to do with your premises and put it into a table format for inspection.

Keep it up to date, adapt it if you use new things or change your house around and show you have looked at it regularly by dating it at least annually.

This advice is the same as for England. care Commission and Ofsted are looking for the same thing - an awareness of risk and protecting the child.
