Can someone tell me, retainer fees, do you have to refund them or is it optional? also when do you refund if you do?
Sorry full of questions today

Retainer fees aren't generally refunded. Deposits are.
Btw questions are a good thing.:)

I never charge a retainer

Just a deposit - which comes off their first week / month minding
If they do not take the place as agreed then the deposit is not refundable

I'd charge the £3.50, as quite a few of the minders are already charging this and so parents are obviouls paying it. You could come in at £3.40 just to be a bit cheaper to attract business but I dont think 10p will make much difference to parents looking for 'the right setting' its you that is important not the price

I'd go with the £3.50, as well. And then set about proving to prospective parents just why you are at the higher end of the scale. Wow them with your initial visit and show them the quality care you will be providing. It's a sad fact that at the end of the day, some people will choose simply for the cheapest rate but at least you'll know that the parents who chose you are more interested n quality.

I'd probably go nearer the top end of the charges than the bottom especially as you won't be putting yours up for a while

Agree with the others about retainers

I would pitch myself at the top. A, because I'm fantastic (lol) B, because I hate telling parents my prices have gone up - by starting high you can put it off a bit longer!

I'd do the £3.50 for that reason also and then you could do a special rate for full days and full weeks based on what others in the area are asking. Make yourself look more attractive than others in your area by offering something that they don't e.g open half an hour earlier or later than them or pick up from a school further away - something that won't put you out too much or rock your family boat but something that might be in demand. Low fees don't pay the bills.

I would go for 3.00 as a happy medium, 2.50 is too low I think, with all the responsibility you're taking on and the ongoing training updates, I think 3.00 is too low really, but you need to stay competitive.

Hope this helps.
