Well, sickness and diarrhoea. DS2 had bad diarrhoea last week and I ended up phoning NHS Direct about it. They told me not to starve him as there was no evidence that it had any effect. Eventually a doctor phoned me back and told me to starve him. I questioned her as she contradicted the NHS direct advice and she told me they were wrong. Just wondered if anybody knew what was correct?

Well I'm definetly no medical expert but I thought you were supposed to starve them - if it's just going to pass through there's no point really. Obviously fluids are important though.

It'll be interesting to find out who was right - gives you lots of confidence in the NHS doesn't it!

I thought you were supposed to starve them too, but only cos thats what my mum used to do when we were little, and that was over 30 years ago

I find that starving them seems to make it go quicker as it has nothing to feed off

I agree with everyone else, I always thought you starved them, and was always starved whenever I had this.

Ditto here too, no eating as it just adds extra stress to the indigestion system.

No eating, usually for 24 hours, however much they beg. It lets the stomach lining settle and all the crap get out whichever end.

Lots of plain bland fluids (not coke or lemonade it burns the stomach)... water is best.

Hope he is feeling better soon xx

Yep - I've also always thought you should starve them. If they really beg, I'll let them have a bit of dry toast but that's it - and lots of fluid's of course!
