The best thing to do is to contact Sarah 707 or go on to her website where she has e-books for sale at really reasonable prices which are brilliant for help with planning and obs.

If you have any specific questions then put them on here and we will all try to help.

Good luck:thumbsup:

Hi,

I have decided to do a daily diary which will go home with the child with the usual info in. I really need to no how people are doing their observations and planning? Are you using a specific document or is it a case of making one up for yourself. I have seen people referring to the eyfs stickers ? how do you use these and where can i get them from ?

sorry for all the questions ! getting really cross with myself !!

I wouldn't worry yet. When a child first starts you should just be watching what they are doing. Set up a learning journey for them and check the EYFS areas of learning. See where they are up to on the document and write up starting points of what you have observed the child do when they are with you. Its only when you have an idea of what the child likes to play with which can be from parents before they start and in the initial few days/weeks that you can plan an activity which should help them to move forward in their development.

What I have is the EYFS document at the front of each child's folder
An about me sheet filled in by the parent
Starting points which are what the child can do linked to the 6 areas of learning.
Then when I observe something I date it on the EYFS doc and put the written/photo obs in the file and link it to the 6 areas of learning and what I could do to encourage the child.

Check how it fits into the Eyfs ages and stages information for that child...

There are lots of hints and tips in the Eyfs for ideas of how to plan for the next steps in the child's learning and development.

Have a good nosey round the forums as well, there are lots of threads with advice :D
