Hiya.
I hve had an enquiry for a baby 3 times a week as of September. Mum is a teacher and wanting him to only come in term time. I explained that as baby would be taking up a full time position I would have to charge her a retainer fee during the hols at half the normal fee!!! She has sent me an email asking if I would consider charging a higher daily rate for him during the term time and nothing during the holidays!!!! What do I do?? Any ideas anyone?? Thanks xxxx

Work out your normal weekly rate for her - then times by 39 (that is number of weeks in a school year) then divide answer by 52. That will give you a higher weekly rate - and dont tell her she would be better off just paying half in the school hols

Yes a friend of mine does that. She charges a pound per hour extra and nothing in the school holidays. It works OK for her.:)

so if it would be 90 a week (£30 a day) x 39 = £3510
divide £3510 x 52 = £67.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!! would that be a daily rate then??
I am so confused.
Thinking about it.....she would only need to pay me £45 a week to hold the place open (at half rate) and if she was paying a nursery it would be full pay each and every day!!!! How much cheaper does she want it???

3.50 x 9 x 3 = 94.50 x 39 / 52 = 70.87
3.50 x 9 x 3 = 94.50 x 52 / 39 = 126

sorry, think you put it the wrong way around, based on a 3.5 per hour, 9 hours per day, 3 times a week on the way you put it would mean she would pay less.

the second way around of times 52 / 39 would mean she would pay more...

ahh thanks for all your replies...maths was never my strong point.
I have worked out if I charge £5 an hour it works out over the weeks exactly the same. Sorry another question...if I am off for what ever reason I dont usually charge a fee, what would I do in this case.....deduct a full days pay at the increased rate or just my standard rate so I am not missing out on double wage!!!!(if that makes sense) x

I did mine based on 38 weeks full fees, 14 weeks half fees then divided by 12 to get a monthly rate which parents pay by direct debit on 1st of each month - same amount each month. Works well for me because I get paid the same and DD means they don't forget to pay me :D
