I have a Settling in Policy where I detail what I do etc... but one thing I haven't thought about is - Is it usual to charge or these sessions/hours??

I didnt charge for mine as only had a couple of sessions, I would of charged if it was a regular thing after a couple of times. like they werent starting for a couple of months and you had them every week till then.

It depends on the situation as to whether or not I charge.

I did when I did the settling in period with 'D'.

His mum wanted to make sure that he was happy and secure before she started the contract and I ended up looking after him for quite a few hours before he did start.

She paid me a deposit and when I worked out the settling in hours that I had worked I had found they had mounted up to 22 hours and am glad that I charged her for it.

As the others say.....if it is only for a few hours/sessions then I wouldn't charge for that.

I'm similar to Dee

I don't usually charge as I think these sessions are for my benefit as well as the child's so I can get to know them

But if the parent wanted a lot of hours then I would have to charge

I've usually found parents expect to pay so it shouldn't be a problem whatever you decide

I don't tend to charge for only a few hours but if settling period lasted for more than 4 hour then I would

I do, my normal hourly rate, but then the children do come to me for a whole morning - if it were just an hour then i wouldnt charge and i also dont charge for any time the parent stays with us.

Hi

I offer 2 familiarisation sessions free - they would normally be of an hour or two each. After that it's on full contract fees, even if they still only come for an hour or so for the first few weeks.

It's all so complicated!

I'm the same as the others, don't charge if its only for a couple of hours at a time just a few times, but if its a regular thing for a few weeks prior to starting then yes I charge the normal fee!

I don't - good customer relationship and all that also gets you off on the right foot with parents but don't let it be more than 2 or 3 unlewss the child is a screamer then it might be in your best interest to offer more sessions as you won't want to be landed with a screamer for the first week or so best the child is happy and relaxed when arrives at beginning of contract.

These sessions are different to the settling in period as set out in NCMA contract you do charge for this and the parents or you can withdraw from the contract without notice, so best keep that to a minimum 1-2 weeks - or at least thats how I understand it - feel free to correct me if I'm wrong,

I find the first visit with parents to go through things lasts about 1-1.5 hrs where I try to find time to start getting to know the child a bit. Then I offer a free 2hr session where they are left.
After that I would charge my normal rate.
Nikki. :)
