Child killed during school drop-off

A three-year-old girl has died after being trapped between her mother's car and a gatepost in a school car park.

Amber Whyte was killed as she was dropped off at the day nursery she attended at Russell House School in Otford, near Sevenoaks, Kent.

A spokeswoman for Kent Police said they were called to the school at 9am.

Early indications showed that the child became trapped between her mother's car and the gatepost after she got out of the vehicle and it rolled backwards.

I read this in the paper this morning. Otford is only 20mins down the road from me.
I can't imagine what the Mum and the rest of the family must be going through. :(

Poor little girl and I feel sorry for her mother as well who has to live with this for the rest of her life.

There's been so much sad news about children dying today - it really makes me want to cry. Also thankful that my three children are tucked up safely in bed.

OMG how awful - Its unimaginable how the poor mum must feel.

Last year the day after I took on 2 new sisters i dropped them off at school and when I came out my handbreak had failed and rolled into the reception teachers car - I felt terrible as there could have been a child passing between the 2 cars crosing the road to the school. I was lucky - apparently its a fault with my type of car - my DH went on a forum forum of thatparticular car and that was the general concencus.

And about 10 minutes from me. I read it and almost cried.

That poor mother. Its hard enough to lose a child but in those circumstances is just unbearable.
