Does anyone have a template for a '5 a-day' chart to use with the children? Or a good one to buy? I would like something I can use for multiple children if poss.

If any of you use these, do you give the child a tick/magnet etc if they just try a fruit or only if they eat a portion?

I am trying to think of ways to encourage the fussier children ( out of 3 full time under 5s 2 are graet fruit/veg eaters, the older one is very fussy)

Any ideas or pointers to other threads greatfully received :)

This is the poster that I use.

I printed one for each child and laminated it.

I use a wipe off marker pen and the children draw on smiley faces for every piece of fruit or portion of vegetables that they have.

At the end of the day we count them up and talk about if they have eaten enough portions or whether they need to try a little harder tomorrow.

At the end of the week I just wipe it off and it is ready for the next week!

Thanks everyone lots of great ideas.

Dee, do you give them a smiley face if they try a fruit/veg or only if they eat an appropriate portion?

Sarah

I give them a smiley face for trying as well.

I have one little girl who used to refuse to try anything and said she didn't like it.

It doesn't always work but she will now try things and sometimes she finds that she actually likes them......I have got her eating carrots, baby corn and suger snap peas.

So although she shouldn't 'officially' have had a smiley because she didn't actually eat the full portion it has it's benefits in bending the rules ;)
