Ahhhh!

I have a mum coming to see me tonight @ 8pm about her 8 month old baby. She wants 3 days per week. Starting in a couple of weeks.

I have my policies etc all ready but I am sooo nervous.

I want to come over confident and professional, but I feel sick inside!

Any advice?

When you open the door, push all of your worries from your mind, greet her with a friendly welcoming smile and invite her in. Take a deep breath!

Give her your portfolio to look at if you have one, all of your policies, etc and offer her a drink while she reads through it. If the baby is there, you could have some toys out ready for him to play with.

Above all just be yourself. Ask if she has any questions for you.

Good luck and I hope that she signs a contract for you! Let us know how it goes!

stay calm and be yourself, the mum will be probably as worried as you or even more. Chat to her, shoe your policies, ask about her baby, his routine and interact with him.

Good luck

Good luck hunny and hope it goes well .

Give her a big smile and if she brings baby , pick him/her up, I saw a few childmninders when looking for one for my son and only one person picked him up, that is who i chose :)

Also give a little brochure, or some kind of additional details so she as something to refer back to. This is always helpful when choosing :)

UPDATE!

Sorry for keeping you all waiting! The support on this forum is phenomenal

Mum phoned me at 7.55pm last night to Cancel! aarrghhh, but rearranged for 9.30am this morning and turned up this time.

Mum, Dad and Baby came, I stayed calm and smiley and handed them a portfolio. The seemed to be in a rush, which disappointed me. They were also off to see a day nursery. I talked through what i could offer, asked about the babies routine and what they were looking for.

They wanted 3 days a week and were happy with the fees etc. They gave me lots of compliments about the house and my professional, organised, manner. They were really keen, and said that they knew on the phone talking to me that they would like me and that they were really keen but as they had the appointment wanted to see the nursery too.

So they went off to see the day nursery and I havent heard a peep since.

On a complete different note, I also saw an after schoolie today who wants to sign contracts! She is starting reception and wants before and after school term time only which suits me great. I cant sign contracts as my certificate has yet to arrive despite the CRB's being complete. I am also waiting for contracts to arrive from NCMA.

I will keep you posted on the 8 month old baby. Thanks every one!

Perhaps they don't want to contact you cos its a bank holiday weekend.

Give them a ring on Tuesday, and then you'll know either way.

I do hope it is you, so fingers crossed xx

Hi all,

I didnt get the job....my pending loft conversion (8th June for 8 weeks) put the family off.

Understandable.

How can I take on children when I have the loft about to be done? I am guessing this will put off loads of parents.

When should I tell them?....during the meeting? I cant really wait for them to say yes and then drop the bomb shell, but I dont want to loose all these jobs because of something which will only take 8 weeks.

i dont see a problem so long as you Risk Assess and keep LO's away:)
Or am I missing something?

There will be more... I think tell them when they come and see you. I think if you tell them on the phone, they'll be more put off, but if they come and see you, and like you, and you can show them how you will work around it, then you will get the work.

I was worried being pregnant, thinking I wouldn't get any more kids till after baby's born, but we took on 3 within 2 days, and now we're full again. I told parents at meeting. :D

I had my loft done while I was working. Was done by builder friends and DH helped. All on the understanding that they would impact on me as little as possible. Did go out for the day when really bad bits were going on, went to minder friend when I had no water too.

They did wiring for electric and lights then connected it all in one day when I went out.

The stairs were a hard bit but as I said we just went out. Got them to redesign the bottom of the banisters so I could fit a stairate too, DH had not thought of that:rolleyes:

My garden was out of bounds for a while so we went to the park a lot! Each morning I checked what they would be doing and planned my day round it, making sure there were no tools etc about each evening when they left.

It is possible. Reassure the parents, it is only a temporary inconvenience - well worth it
