deposit advice plz

I was just wondering, if i took a months deposit from a parent now for a place in november, would i cash the cheque now or wait till november as i plan on using for 1st months fees. only asking because if the parent decided nearer the time they didn't want the place that i had held couldn't they just cancel the cheque?

Cash the cheque and keep the money until when you have agreed with the parents.

I bank deposits etc as soon as received. If you need to refund anything then you can sort it later. My deposits are usually taken off the first months minding but i am changing my policy in future to hold them to use towards final invoice.

I haven't had any real problems but you never know.

I would cash it but move the money elsewhere so as not to spend it! :p

Cheques are not valid 6 months after they are written, so you would have to cash it in case it expired :thumbsup:

As the others have said, cash it.

I would be inclined to knock it off the last months fees rather than first so that the parents are always paying in advance. By doing it this way, in effect, their last month is free :thumbsup:
