i think you can be a childminder from 18 as that is what they class as an adult

i was 25 and before that i had a childminder for my children and she was 22 i think or 21 and i was fine with that

If childminding is what you want to do then go for it.
You shoud not be discriminated against for being young. (and I don't think you would!)

Good luck

Hiya, I agree with all the others. Your age will not pose a problem. As for where to start, you need to phone your local early years service and ask if there is an information evening (childminding) anytime soon and book a place. They will have the answers to a lot of your questions. Although I know that there will be someone here who can answer any question you could possibly have with regards to childminding. So ask away hun!!!!

Im 25 and have been childminding for 4 years, ive never come across anyone that thinks im too young! What matters is how you are with the children, some parents may chose an older childminder because of experience, but there are lots of people that it makes no difference to. good luck with registering :)

Good luck with the training and everything. Your age really shouldn't matter to anyone. If this is what you want to do, then do it! :) I was 24 when i registered and thought i was too young, (look it aswell) but to be honest no-one has asked my age. Except the kids themselves!lol

why not. Most nannies are not much older so I wouldn't worry. I'd love to be 21 again!

When I went for the breifing session one lady was very rude and said anyone without children didn't have the right to become a childminder as we clearly won't understand what we are doing. She said it only for those with children at home and those without should work in an office or something. Boy, did I have to keep my mouth close! *** the 2 years I spent in college studying then!

I have been trying to become a childminder since 2001, when I finished college and I was 19.

Im 24 and started registering when i was 22. I don't have my own kids either and worried that this might put people off. Other childminders i have spoke to have been really supportive and now i don't think it matters how old you are or whether you have your own kids or not. I'd tell anyone thinking about registering to go for it.:clapping:

I am 23 and i have been minding for nearly 4 years :clapping:
I had lots of experience as a nanny, holiday camp co-ordinator, a two year placement in a specialist school for autistic children and a degree in Education Studies before i registered... but i don't have my own children!!!
It is very hard work but so very very rewarding :) I hope you went through with your registration! xx
