In our playhouse, a bird family had build their nest, quite precariously. Mum laid three eggs. We had been filming the progress - sadly the nest blew down in the winds last night (blew in one of the windows) and its tipped the nest and the babies - who must have been ready to hatch, have come out of their shells and are dead on the floor.

My eldest (who is very sensitive) is distraught and was begging me to save them (there is nothing I can do) and I know my mindee is going to be so upset as well - not sure if I should tell him (he is only 3) actually.

We are going to bury the babies later - must admit that I feel quite upset too:(

Aww thats such a shame.:(

You will know best whether to "tell" or not but sometimes you get even more awkward questions and it goes on longer if you keep things quiet!

We too have been watching robins nest in an old cycle helmet. They flew the nest a couple of weeks ago. However was gardening with a mindee last week and found two baby birds under a bush, so I quickly had to hide them. Mindee is only 3. However it looks like this week the robins are back, have built the nest up more and are in looking after a second batch!!

that is very sad!!
Hope you will all get over it quickly.

Not sure what I would tell the mindee.
Maybe not mention it but if he asks tell the truth ?? (not sure how to do that age appropriately)

Poor little things. I feel for you. I love watching the birds. Feeders are full all year and I spend a fortune on different foods

I feed hedgehogs too, they are back now after winter hibernation. I mark them so I can see who's who. Last year we had them mating  and babies later in the year - SO cute. :D
