I had this, first I politely asked the mum to respect my family time, offering her a chat/information exchange once a week, this went on deaf ears so I introduced an increased fee (double) for anytime used after booked hours. this worked to a degree but she then came earlier to chat, still messing up my story sesion or what ever.

I never did get it sorted as she left when child started school, so if anyone knows the answer to this I'd love to know

I had this with a Dad who picks up early but then stays until the actual pickup time which he has the right to do but it disrupted the other children.

One night mum picked up, she was in and out no messing, her son said ... wow mum I'm glad you dont stop and gasbag like dad does!

he doesnt stop now LOL think she must have had a word.

another mum didnt seem to know when to go, I jokingly said .. wow we have been yacking for 30 minutes now I'll have to start charging overtime soon! it made her think twice about hanging around, she still chats but usually only for 10 mins now each night.

It's easy to say just tell her, but i know i'd find it really difficult. Someone will be along soon with a great answer i'm sure.

I make sure the kids stuff is ready to go by the door, start getting their coats and shoes on them as soon as dad gets there then tell my lo to come and say goodbye to whoever is leaving. works every time ;)

I just say brightly - Bye Bye then, see you tomorrow, have a nice evening - whilst walking toward the door and opening it ;)

Thinking about it, I do actually say to the kids, "come on, bits away and coats on" might ned to repeat a couple of times.

if younger children, say to own, so n so is going home, say good bye. might work, if anythink its worth a try

I have used the excuses that I'm either going to college or out to a childminding meeting.

But I think that your mum needs telling.

Do you have other mindees? I also often say that I have to get the other children sorted or keep an eye on them, so don't have time to chat.

Sometimes we have to be blunt unfortunately.

good luck.

Sorry no ideas but I have a similar problem that mum stays for 30mins at dropping off time. The mindee is only here for 3 hours so it's a big chunk of the time they're here that we could be doing activities, going to the park etc.

Mindee is dropped off at 1.30, mum is still here at 2pm then I leave for school run at 2.15 so it's just such a waste of 45mins when we could be doing an activity. Mindee has never settled very well & I think it's because mum stays for so long that he expects her to stay for the whole time he's here.

I've tried saying that we need to leave the house but they don't get the hint that I need to get on with things.
Any ideas on asking nicely?

Get someone to phone you at a specified time and hopefully she will get the hint

Have coats on at the door when the door bell rings and if you are not ready do not answer the door until you are. Stand at the door and do not let her in and yes occasionally get someone to phone and say have a nice evening got to get the phone.

We will all have to take it in turns to ring you at a certain time
oh this isn't funny though - I think I would give her ten minutes and then say something like ' sorry I have to get on with dinner as we are going out' . I think it is about taking control in your own home and giving the right body language. If you are sat down talking then stand up when you want her to leave, if you are stood up then move towards the door when you are ready for her to leave and say whatever it is you decide to say.

Good luck, I know it isn't that easy to do but be strong and firm
