hi guys..
i have a 7 seater 2nd car for childminding i claim mileage on this car can i claim for the insurance, tax, mot, and repairs on this 2nd car?

If you are claiming 40p per mile you can't claim insurance, tax as well.

The rule is it's one or the other, the 40p is usually less hassle but otherwise if you know the exact costs for petrol etc then you can claim that or the % for childminding use.But if it's solely used for minding and never for personal use then it sounds easy to claim that way and claim everything.

It all depends on the number of business miles that you do and the value of the car when your purchased it as to which way is better when claiming the car.

If it is a low value then go down the .40p a mile route but if the car was purchased for £10000 plus then I would say look at depreciation and then you can claim all car expenses based on the percentage of business use.

It is not hard to work out but you need the value of the car and the business use to be high so that the depreciation is high making it worthwhile.
