You can also subscribe to threads.
as you post, below where you post your message, is a box to choose 'thread subscription' you can choose from a variety of notification methods.
If you choose no notification you can then view subscribed threads in your user cp panel 'subscribed threads'.
You can also add a thread that you have not posted in to your subscription by choosing 'subscribe to this thread' from the 'thread tools' drop down menu at the top of the thread.
