You need to get your network coordinator to get in touch with the inclusion teacher/officer to arrange some training for you - and get the parents of the child to get intouch with whoever they deal with to see if they can offer you any training, they often do.

I'm in Kent and I have been trying to get onto a Makaton course. They are fully booked in my area until 2010.

I have bought their babies signing book for about £8 and I have tought myself the basic's.

These are American Sign Language.

The Deaf books links are Bristish Sign Language, some signs do differ slightly. Makaton signs were taken from BSL but BSL has many regional variations.

That one is Australian sign language, quite a few of them are different to BSL/Makaton.

Don't be, it is really confusing with so many different types of signing.

For baby signing it isn't really a problem what type you use as long as the carers of the child all know the signs. I used Bristish Sign Language with my children except for the sign milk, often Mums use the American sign as it is easier.

IMO it is a good idea to use a method recognised in the UK if your child is likely to continue to use it at school, etc.

just what i was going to say ,,, the child should have a CAF and you should have access to it and the "partner ship working" that goes with it x
