Hi Jacqui

You are allowed to have a total of 6 children ranging from 0-8 and that includes your own (and of course providing you have enough space)

In that 6 a total of 3 can be over 5 and 3 under 5 but can only have one under 1.......are you with me so far?

So you have a 10 year old who will not be included in your numbers

A 6 year old who will be in the 5-8 bracket

And 4 year old twins which mean you already have 2 under 5

So you would be allowed 1 under the age of 5

2 in the 5-8 bracket.

The childrens act doesn't cover children over the age of 8 so in theory you can look after as many as you want but Ofsted likes to see that you are taking into account the care of the younger children so don't like to see you with too many over 8's.

If you get your public liabilty insurance through NCMA it will cover you for a maximum of 12 children.

I hope all this helps

The other thing I didn't add was when do your 4 yr old twins start full time school.

The reason I ask is because when they start full time school they will officially be classed as 5 year olds even though they still may be 4.

I hope you understand all this....it can be very confusing sometimes :D

Then they will be moved from the 0-5 bracket to the 5-8 bracket....so you should then be able to have 3 under the age of 5.
