I'm having a garage conversion and one of the quoters said I had to have the smoke alarm hard wired to the mains if its in the garage as you might not necessarily hear the one in the house that goes off. Its an integral garage.

Is this necessary do you think? I don't want to pay extra for something that isn't necessary. I know safety is at stake but its going to be mainly a toy strorage room rather than a constant playroom and the children aren't going to be left in there with the door shut.

ring your councils planning department, because if you need one and you don't get one they wont pass you conversion.

I think they are right in saying this. If the garage is integral you have to have a proper fire door to stop the spread of fire and if you are changing it i would think the alarm should be wired in.

For my overnight licence i had to have a wired in alarm in the bedroom i use for overnight too.
