Hi everyone, I had parents come today for childcare for their daughter which was great because I have a fulltime place available. The parents asked if I could meet the mum on the bus stop about mile away (they live about 5 miles away). I said to save mum getting off bus I could possibly pick the child up (bus only runs every hour) it would be shift work so only 3 10hr days per week (suits me fine). They were very happy with this and arranged to sign contracts on Wed. Tonite they called be to ask when I picked up the child could I take the mother to work also (only 1 mile from my house) I couldnt beleive it (what a cheek) I said I was flexible but!!!!! I told them I would have to call them back tomorrow. What would you do?

I think it was a very generous offer of yours to pick up the child but this is taking it a bit too far!

Or you could do it and charge them to make it worth your while!

It depends whether you are going that way, and if so charge them if you want to.

I pick up a child and maybe if I was going past where Mum works, I would consider it.

But what if she is running late one day? The child may be ready so you would otherwise be ready to go straight off. But if your arrangement is to drop Mum off, then would you feel you have to wait, especially if she is paying you?

Tell her sure for an extra twenty five pounds. Does she want you to pop round and wash her dishes and make her bed as well. Far too much of a tie.

Wait until the bus is late or gets cancelled are you going to go home then go back to the bus stop later. The whole thing sounds like too much could go wrong.:panic:

I had this in the past and I said to the mum I would work out my petrol costs and my time costs, she didnt like this as thought I would just do it, even said this to me as well, she worked 2 streets from my house but lived 6 miles across town. I told her it would be an extra £20 per week. She even asked her dad if I was charging the right price for the petrol. Thing is they make you feel arwkward(sp). Just say no,tell her you are not insured to carry parents in the car only children and that if you had a crash while she was in the car your insurance would be void. Good luck.

Now that could be a lucrative sideline - babysitting the adults and getting them to work on time:laughing:

OMG I would definatly say no, how lazy is she? I would do it if it was a one off like her car was in the garage just to help out but nothing more.

Plus if you are charging wouldn't you have to register as a private hire vehicle
?

The other way of getting out of it is she would be taking up one of your school run seats, whilst you don't have a child in that seat right now - if she took it you wouldn't be able to.

Tis very cheeky......I'm actually quite in awe as I would never have the audacity to ask!

Haha I'd have to say no. I wouldn't mind as pp said if her car was in the garage and it was a one off, but every day! Too much can go wrong, you are not insured as a taxi and so cannot charge her...

I wouldn't pick up the child either though as I do not have a car. The parents can drop off and collect from my house and that is it.

I must agree I would not regularly commit to picking up especially from a bus stop, all sorts of things could go wrong and I wouldn't be comfortable taking my or mindees on such a trip.

The lift to work well:eek:   !!!!! She is having a laugh!!!!!!

No sorry to my mind that's crossing the line. Almost as if you are being employed by her to do this. No way Jose!

Use the excuse of no room/no insurance to do so etc.
