Hi
I am in the process of designing my playroom.
Does anyone have any photos of theirs that they wanna share?
I am watching this item on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370169582631

And i am hoping to fiill the gaps with labelled storage boxes.
I wanna keep the design of the room simple, with very traditional 'toy groups' if u know what i mean.

I would be grateful for any ideas.
Thanks
Lisa

Oooh gosh Ive had it so long Im not sure where it came from. It may have been the Great Little Trading Company. It was about £100 I think but well worth it as the kids love it :D Trouble is they all fight over who gets to sit on the giraffes

I just got rid of my book case as it was taking too much space. I now have books in wicker baskets so I can move them into the lounge/garden easily.

This is mine. It's quite small and I can't fit much in it. I have a big wardrobe which my dad has fitted shelves in for me where I keep all the games and toys. I would love some of those storage boxes though!! x

Our Hamster, Nibbles!!! It is a very strange shaped cage, the whole of it spins around like a big wheel.

It didn't stand up to the hamster's inquisitive nature though. She worked out how to open the door and used to wonder abound the play room at night. After she chewed through the curtains I knew it was time for a change and we have since bought a nice new cage which is impossible for her to escape!

We also have a fish tank in there with an 8 spotted puffer!

I like this thread! A chance to nose at other peoples playrooms and show off your own at the same time! I have alot of stuff in cupboards too, a wardrobe with shelves and a child size wardrobe for dress up stuff.

Taken two years to get that lot together and as for space, I've been gradually working my way up the walls on each side of the room! AND I've got other stuff stored in the spare room! Oh, and the play kitchen is in my kitchen too!

There must be other people out there without play rooms too.

Most of my resources have come from over generous grandparents, and rather than fight it I just run with it - and hey childminding kids benefit as well. A friend of mine has 'promised' me loads of boys toys as well as I have 2 girls of my own - whilst we have some more 'boy' related stuff we don't have a huge variety - so this will restore the balance!

we also have a outside play house as well:

Keep em coming, loving the playroom pictures.

My dining room is sort of turning into the play room, not too much of an issue. We can close the doors at the end of the day plus we've got table and chairs in the kitchen. DH is very keen on getting half of the double garage converted in a few years.

The downside of a playroom is for the tax man! I have to remember that it's not just a playroom solely for childminding, it's also where I do my ironing:rolleyes:

We converted our dining room in the end. Its a bit of a pain having the table in the lounge but it goes in ok and as others have said, its so nice to shut the door on it all.

Yes it is a service hatch  Its really good actually as if the kids are in the playroom I can see them from the kitchen or lounge and when they play cinemas they use it as the popcorn kiosk

Have also kicked DH out of the shed and have a huge amount of stuff in there, as well as in the big cupboard in DD2s room. It has taken over and DH has banned me from buying more toys now :o

WOW these playroom and play houses are great. I dont have a spare room downstairs that I can use so my lounge looks like a nursery and I dont have any children, getting a bit fed up of it now though toys everywhere. My hallway is also like a playroom with bookshelves and free standing unit with drawers and my spare bedroom too where the children sleep. I WISH I HAD A PLAYROOM:panic: :panic: :panic: :panic:

uf353432
12-03-2009, 12:51 PM
actually they are hombase and they are very heavy so not held together just free stacked, but they are deep so they are not moving anywhere! they were about £100 each, homebase still sell them. boxes come separate

I have these units if they are from Argos and they are sturdy. I haven't attached them together as with the amount of toys in and on them they aren't going anywhere :D

Bottom ones have the casters on for moving to clean the playroom floor.

my through lounge is my play area, i havent got a designated room but I dont mind having toys all over the place as my own children are still young.

Mine is in the process of being built ie a conservatory.

Storage wise, I have one Trofast Unit (the one that goes tall to small) that I got free from netmums. I am hoping to get another one done when my conservatory is built.

http://photobucket.com/daisychainqueenplayroom

just tried link, it works ok!! ish, never used photobucket before.

The messy room we have tiled floor large table in centre, small boxes on wall for all craft bits and bobs pens, pencils, scissors, collage stuff all at easy access.
cupboard with paper drying rack above and colour sacks hanging from ceiling.
and then just low level sink and paints.

Playroom has everything storred in boxes with photos on all at low level easy access and purposed built storage for specific items.
and the usual home corner type thing.

Think that covers it a bit.

Just added some daylight pictures, looks lots better now

I want a playroom!!!!! :crying: They all look so brilliant!!! I hate my dining room being turned into a nursery but can't stand having to put everything away at the week-end and then get it all back out again ready for monday, so it tends to stay up! Well, my playroom was supposed to be a dining room! I have a small lounge with kitchen attached on one end of it. There is no room anywhere for a normal size table and chairs, so I made a big sacrifice to have a playroom really! But I wouldnt change it for the world! I eat my dinner on my lap after they have all gone home!

Me too!

My kids are young teens now so all the toys are not needed outside of work time. I have 2 pine toy cupboards in the sitting room, duplo boxes looking at me when I watch TV in the evenings but lots more stuff in the loft room to bring down when needed. Art stuff in the shed with easel. Rolled up car mats and dolls buggies hidden behind chairs when not in use.

I bought a low folding table from NES Arnold. Goes behind the sofa in the evenings - best thing I ever bought  Was in the sale for about £70 but worth every penny. will be getting another when I can afford it. I put it up with a selection of toys at beginning of working day and rotate toys from cupboards all the time.

How do others with older children and no playroom sort their toys?

I've got the Argos version and I have screwed them together and was quite glad I had as DD2 tried to climb up them! Sorry I don't think I can post pictures yet to show you our playroom. We had the house extended with larger kitchen, playroom and downstairs toilet for my sanity!!! It has made a huge difference! :jump for joy:

Verona range of furniture in argos is good and cheap!Ihave the large tv unit as low shelving-it is great for storing toys at child height very stable and has rounded edges for safety.I use the top of it for displays.:) :) :)

I was hoping to have a playroom I tried putting dds in the same room but it didnt work, so they are back to a room each. So I will be using to sitting room until I can afford a conservatory. I do have a large space in my hall so will have boxes in there when not minding.

I obviously missed this thread originally but I've just enjoyed looking at everyone's playrooms because I'm really nosey!

My conservatory is my playroom but at the moment it's just boxes stacked on each other - I'd love some storage but haven't found anything that will fit in properly yet!

Angel - where did you get your storage unit with the books on it - I'm having trouble finding a reasonable priced but nice bookcase and I could see if that would fit in. I'm having a guess at Ikea - am I right?

Me neither :(

I would if hubby would let me!!!

I have to be ingenious with my storage so he doesnt realise - although he did open the cupboard under the stairs yesterday for the broom (at my request, I might add) and went OH MY GOD!!! It's filled to the brim!!!!

When we move I will have a playroom :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Will also be my kids TV room but nothing needs to be in my sitting room for once :clapping:

Been looking at all yours again for ideas on storage. There is a built in floor to ceiling cupboard (will fit puzzles and games and art stuff high up, but not big toy boxes) and will use one of my pine toycupboards in there which holds 6 big boxes, need something open fronted that the kids can help themselves to stuff from or trofast boxes and cubboard I think..................ooh this is fun!

Hope this link works, my picks aren't great, it was getting dark, and they don't really show the size of the rooms but you can see the messyroom and the playroom.

http://photobucket.com/daisychainqueenplayroom

just tried link, it works ok!! ish, never used photobucket before.

Just added some daylight pictures, looks lots better now

omg that is bigger than my whole house. I am sooo jealous reading this thread. i mind from my lounge and dh insists nothing is left out at the end of the day - so display boards etc all taken down each night and everything away.He doesnt want to live in a nursery!

How did you do the walls? And do you mind telling me where the kitchen is from? It all looks fab! We're getting a playhouse and was wondering how to decorate the inside.

Hi Daisyqueen

Your set up looks great. Could I be nosey and ask where you got the unit with the coloured pencil holder on top of it and could you post a bigger pic as I can't seem to get them any bigger than stamp size... Thanks...:D

I would love to know too, we've got a little play house which the last owners left behind and while it's nice it could do with some tlc to make it look good, hadn't thought of painting inside.

I don't have a separate room :(. Most of my resources will be under the stairs in the front room and I have a large kitchen/diner. This will double up as a messy area as it's tiled. Is this ok?

all theses rooms look lovely ... i dont have a play room as such use my living room set activitys up though the day, use my kitchen dining room for crafts, but have just put all my stuff in my utility room( just a washer and freezer in there) got 2 units each with 3 large drawers and 2 small drawers set up the kitchen in there and dressing table, put road play mat in floor this weekend. sort of looks like a play room now will have to get some pics to post so u can all have a look .... utility room is about 8 foot by 10 foot so not that big but big enough for little ones ... trying to get hubby to let me use under my stairs as a den, computer under there at moment but goin upstairs when he makes spare rooom into office as he works from home (he can get out of the kids way then) .....

i use my conservatory, but at the moment all the toys are stored and put away in the shed every night which is a bit of a pain, having to clear them all away, and set back up every day, ive managed to convince steve to let me have the trofast units:clapping: :clapping: which i will hopefully be getting tonight, i do want it to look a bit more like a play room, and a bit more appealing to prospective parents, at the moment all thats in there is a sideboard at one end with the tv above it and a sofa at the other, the only other time it gets used out of work time is for scott to sit in there at night and play his ps3, so it wont bother steve if i have a few posters in there:clapping:

will put some pics on when its all sorted:)

these rooms are great!! we haven't long moved into our house so i have a lot to do yet. I have a dining room which we have as a playroom for our two year old as her rooms too small for her toys.

this leads into our conservatory which will be more space for the kids. Can't wait to get started!!
