Is there an actual limit on how many over 8's we can care for? I'm sure I read that there wasn't a limit as long as the care of the younger children isn't affected. Can anyone confirm this?

Check with your insurance company - they limit it.

Like you say Ofsted are concerned about any potential effect on your little ones

I include mine in my numbers for safety reasons too for car transport.

I have to walk on mondays as 2 over but the rest of the time I use the car ... only cuz I'm lazy though it wouldnt hurt me to walk every day if needed.

I asked this question recently and looked up in my ncma guide book and it says I'm insured for 6 children under 8 and six children over 8 and so I am insured for a total of 12. Don't think I will ever be mad enough to do that though!

sometimes 9 on a tues but rest of the wk I have 6 but at times friends tag along which boosts my numbers up more but its all fun and I'm covered thats all that matters

It will be your insurance that dictates it more than anything else although as someone else said, there is wording to the effect of any older ones not interfering with your care of the younger ones.

Does anyone know if the NCMA numbers include my own children?

MMM, Thats a good question, cos your insurance doesn't cover you for your own children at all. I always count my son in my six under eight year olds so that I don't get confused on numbers, so if you have your own children, count them in the total 12.

Hope thats right!

The insurance does not include your own children.

NCMA insure you for a total of 10 children and MM for 12.

There isn't a limit on the number of over 8's that Ofsted allow you, however they do want you to justify if you have a lot as to how you accomodate the under 8's.

I was surprised as well as I thought it was 10. Just looked back through previous policies and it changed from 10 -12 in 2007-2008:clapping:
