We have a great time making play do, then playing with it straight after, but when we get it out of the fridge the next day its gone too sticky and tacky to play with, I've tried adding more flour to the already made doh, but that doesnt work. has anyone any idea where I'm going wrong
I follow the recipes but do get confused with cup measurements for dry ingredients, converting it as 1 cup=250ml, is this where its going dodgy?

Hi Helen

I have no idea where you are going wrong but it sounds a bit like my pastry a disaster ha

Here are some ideas they seem fairly straight forward

The recipe I always use is:

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 tblsp cream of tartar
2 tblsp cooking oil
2 cups boiling water
food colouring.

Mix altogether in a bowl. There is no need to cook this one.
This lasts ages if covered with clingfilm.
If the cream of tartar is missed out then this is toooooo sticky. We tried it.

This is my playdough recipe

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 dessertspoon cream of tartar
food colouring - about 1 teaspoon

Put food colouring into one of the cups of water then put all ingredients into a large saucepan
Stir over a low heat continually until a ball is formed
Leave to cool then knead it

This recipe will keep for months if you wrap in clingfilm or plastic bag and put in an airtight container

That's the one I use too Miffy. I use the plastic Ikea cups (the ones where you get 6 for £1) as my 'cup' measurement and it always comes out fine.
