Hiya, I have just been on another thread about P.R.I and one of the lovely ladies there said that on the P.R.I. we don't need to have everything in place around the house as it is taken as intention that it will be done. I received a letter though in December from our EY team and I quote -
"Following our recent discussion with Ofsted; you are now required to have all your safety equipment and resources in place when the inspector visits you for your Pre-RegistrationVisit (P.R.I.)."
So now I am a little confused. Do you think this just refers to safety equipment or does it mean the house needs to be ready in all aspects eg. playroom sorted, toys organised etc, etc....
The tutor on our DHC1 course mentioned that things had changed recently with regrads to the P.R.I so I could ask her tomorrow but just wondered what you all thought????

My inspector is coming next week, I told her we have still work in the house and nothing is child proof and asked her if it was ok
She said yes as long as i do a risk assessment and explain my plan of action

That's odd. I thought the reason behind not getting everything actually done was because of the expense you will have and then might not even get registered....that's what i was told.
Give Ofsted a ring if you are still in doubt.

I agree with Tatjana.
I would give them a ring and check, so you are confident when you have your visit.

i agree- i will not be major one or two expensive and major changes to my house (think i may have to get a taller garden fence) without knowing that i am suitable for registrayion.
Hi, I had my Pre-reg inspection a couple of weeks ago. I had safety equipment like smoke alarms and 1 stairgate already installed and told the inspector that I planned to buy a highchair, more stairgates, car seats and a buggy as and when I needed them. She was happy with that and said I didn't need to go out to buy anything else until I knew what age groups I would be looking after - no point in having a highchair if you don't have a baby on your books. She did look at some of my toys but I explained that I intended to obtain more once I knew what age I would be looking after and again, she was happy with that. You do need to have your portfolio at least started on -
the inspector asked to see my policies and other paperwork and went through the Early Years Framework with me. I had sat up all night worrying - it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Hope this helps and good luck!

Ive had my visit and got a letter detailing the actions required an when they need completed by. now sayin if not done by 11/02 my application could b refused. So I beta get cracking.
actions required
"assess the risks to children in relation to their access to the 1st floor bedrooms (not in use) need hook locks puttin up storage of equipment in the spare room, entrance & exit of the house, front room, unlevelled surface and exposed man holes in the back yard and take action to minimise these.not had the weather to put concrete down
provide appropriate fire detection and control equipment which are in working order and 1st aid box with appropriated content to meet the needs of children" fire blanket when join NCMA and already got fire detectors and 1st aid box
Im guessin I need to do a risk assessment and send that back - wat does every1 else think?

The pre-reg inspection must have changed a lot in 2 years as my inspection was nothing like what has been described in other posts. My inspector didn't ask to see any paperwork, I had not prepared any, I had no toys, equipment or resources as I didn't know what age group I would be looking after. She looked round the house and garden and the only thing she said i needed to do was to put stickers on my patio doors!

This is the first time i've heard of actions being given at pre-reg. I only had mine done in Dec so surely can't have changed that much already?!
I think it really depends on the luck of the draw when it comes to inspectors and i was very lucky with mine:)
Am dreading getting one that's really strict and ott:panic:

Hi. Just checked the 'Guide to registration for Childminding' from Ofsted and the section about an action letter states that you must complete the actions before being registered - I think this may mean that you need to purchase the manhole covers now and fit them and maybe even get the bag of concrete mix now so they know that you are serious about carrying out the repairs. When you have an action letter, depending on the number of actions and how serious they consider them, they may send out the inspector again to make sure you have carried them out. Regarding the upstairs bedrooms, that sounds a bit OTT - I don't intend to have mindees in my childrens bedrooms but the doors are kept open and the inspector did not say anything about keping them locked. As long as there is nothing dangerous in there, I don't see why you would need to keep them locked. Do you have a downstairs loo? If yes, the children may not need to go upstairs at all? Unfortunately I don't so children will have to go up the stairs to the bathroom but otherwise I would have kept upstairs private. Sorry, just ignore this if it is not helpful, I only meant to write a couple of lines!

One of doors leads off to eldests room which is in the loft so defo need that one the other is our bedroom so dont want them in there - only have to put hook and eye fittings upDo you have a downstairs loo? I cant see Ofsted wanting to re visit, sum1 I know was due to put decking all round back of her house and they just put an exclusion until work carried out.

Yes definitely if you would not have been buying them otherwise.

I am beginning to realise that Ofsted don't know what the right hand is doing from the left ;)
I had my pre reg inspection and apart from my stair gates (as I have young children of my own) she never checked that I had door locks etc in the kitchen. she didn't ask to see any equipment and I had to point out to her where the smoke alarms were and fire extinguisher.
I was thinking she'd check everything and she apart from look round the rooms she took my word on everything else.
