View Full Version : would you work 1 in 4 saturdays?

26-01-2009, 12:26 PM
I had a call last night aafter 9pm  wanting care for a 7 year old 1 in 4 saturdays.

df thinks I should charge £6 per hour, I think £5 is fair we could do with the money but its my family time, and my cleaning time!

but its only 1 in 4 not likes its every week. and I can take her to the library cos I go once a month anyway

undecided shes coming weds evening and lives literally round the corner

i voted yes, but it would be a probably, depending upon the child, and how easily they would fit into our general routine! plus mum would have to be ok with child sometimes having to come along to my childrens activities!

i would charge a bit more though, maybe time and half, or what my 'out of hours' fee is!

What are the hours? How much do you usually charge?

I would only do it at double time and it would depend on the hours.

If it is your normal cleaning time I would make sure it covered the cost of employing a cleaner too..

I have done in the past as long as it didnt affect what I was doing and charged double rate.

I have done so in the past and like Fiona charged double rate. One week in four isn't that bad, depends if it was all day too though.

No, too many years of shift work and working weekends already, wouldn't do it again.

I would charge double for it. £7 an hour.

Make it worth your while.

I would if I needed the money ! I too like my weekends but it's not every weekend and at seven she shouldn't be too much trouble just take her along to whatever you're doing . Bit of craft , bit of tv , bit of playing in the garden - doddle !
I think £5 per hour sounds reasonable.

i'd be prepared to work any time at the moment - but on a serious note it would suit my family for me to work any day at the moment. If it didn't I wouldn't you have to put your needs and those of your family first if it causes strain for your family its not worth the money and may cause you to resent your mindees and their families.

Hope this has helped

I charge £3.25 per hour and its for 5 hours

so not like its all day ;)

I would do it if it was 1 in 4. But it is her age that would decide me as 7 is an easy age you could take her out with you. I would charge at least 6 pound per hour.

Make sure the mum knows that if you take her out with your children anywhere for example the cinema then all outings are extra.:)

I would but would charge double time

I voted yes BUT will you have her any other time? otherwise would seem like a long time for her to wait until her next visit.

As long as I can fit them around going to all my kids clubs ect over the weekends:laughing: I would do it, moneys money these days!!!

I have siblings every third Saturday right now. They're lovely, no trouble and the extra money is always appreciated. I alos have them after school and all day in holidays so we have come to really love them and think of them as family.

Yep, I would do it as it would fit in fine with my lot at the moment

26-01-2009, 04:09 PM
I voted no, if i wasn't so busy with long week hours 7.30/8.00 - 6.30 5 days a week i probally would

I used to work every other Saturday morning i only charged 50p an hour extra but it was for 2 children so not too bad.

i wouldnt at the moment as i work long hrs in the week 8am till 6pm with i mindee 5 days a week but if i had no mindees and needed the money then yes but they would need to join in with what my family had planned i would charge double rate

26-01-2009, 06:37 PM
think im going to do it, just my hourly rate I need to iron out

i wont have her any other times, so will try and make the saturday that she is with me 'special'

i will make mum aware that we will be going to farms, libaries, parks shops ;)

I would. I have always said I offer spaces at weekends (only ever have one space though). I have only ever had one child come occasionally (parents & sisters all worked shifts) and it wasn't a problem as it wasn't every weekend. I would definately make sure that the child fits in & your children like the child. Taking one more to the library or park isn't much more work. I charge time & a half.

I would do it, its only 1 in 4 but would charge out of hrs time, and would make it very clear that i only wanted to do 1 saturday in 4......:) I have a couple of kids and I have been asked by their mum if i would do 1 Sat every 3mths and i cant see it as a problem.

I voted no simply because as has been said, its my time with my 2 boys, taking them to their swimming lessons, seeing grandparents/family, food shopping and housework, homework etc:eek:
Far too much to done in a weekend, to be childminding:laughing:

26-01-2009, 08:22 PM
I would be willing to do it, but really don't think dh would appreciate it at all, so I'd have to charge well to make him think about it. He likes the house to be ours at weekends so he can slob about uninterrupted:laughing:
