This might be a stupid question but how do I know how many over 8s I can mind. Is it somewhere in my insurance (NCMA) Thanks, Denise

your paper work wont state anything for over 8's as we only get reg'ed for under 8's (if im correct)
we can still have over 8's and you can have as many as you want ... within reason

hope this helps

I don't think there is a limit but you must consider their welfare and the impact of having under 8's in your care at the same time. I look after 5 over 8's but I only have 1 under 8.

please dont quote me on this but im sure my NCMA certificate says 12 children, but im only registered for 6 under 8s so surely that cant mean i can have 6 over 8 too, ive been confused about this too so hopefully someone will come along with the answer

check on your public liabilty. Its normally up to tweleve children in total - including your own AND your under 8's. So if you up are up to quota of 6 under 8's then you can have 6 8-12yr olds.

I phoned NCMA recently as my youngest childminded child is coming up to 8 and I'm probably not going to take on any more. I won't need to be registered and can have as many children as I like as there is no overseeing body for 8+!! The strange thing is that your insurance won't cover you for over 8's, so I was told, and to get insurance through the NCMA for over 8's costs a load more than for under 8's - weird! I feel there is definately a hole in the system somewhere.

So if we are minding only over 8's we dont need to be registered ??? That's dodgey isn't it . :panic:

I'm only 'insured' to have 12 children on my premises at any one time. I was told this still counts if another CM visits with her children.

I saw told you can have as many as you like over 8's, as long as it didnt impact on the care you provide for you under 8's...... It would be good if ofsted had a figure of numbers for over 8's, that all childminder could go by, and then we would all know our limit....

I would think it's the maximum number you are insured for - I think it's 12 with NCMA and 10 with MM - so if you had 4 under 8 you could have 8 over 8 with NCMA and 6 over 8 with MM.

But your own children would be counted with the under 8's but not the over 8's due to OFSTE'd regs.

was it my website??

I can have 6 under 8's and 4 over 8's as i have 2 of my own children aged 9 and 12, was told the max number of children i can have in my home (inc my own) is 12 for insurance reasons

Ofsted don't regulate over 8's but they will ask about the space you have and how all the children in your care impact on the under 8's.

I believe that NCMA will insure you for a total of 10 children (not including your own) and MM do 12.
