No idea if I have put this in the right place - even though I've just asked Sarah and she's told me!!!!! I don't seem to be able to take this bit in.

Anyway, has anyone else heard from the BBC? I've just had an email about an hour ago saying they have received my complaint and will certainly pass it on and they do realize how hard we work. I can't remember what else it said!!! I've been to a mindees party, my brain isn't working properly now!!

Thanks for your e-mail regarding 'Doctors

I understand you felt that the programme seemed to imply that childminding was an easy job.

I'm sorry if you were annoyed or offended as this is certainly never our intention on any of our programmes. I realise you're an Ofsted registered child minder which has involved many training courses, lots of paperwork and generally a lot of hard work.

Please be assured I've registered your complaint on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.

Thanks again for taking the time to e-mail us.

Regards

Ross Montgomery

I got my response this morning, here it is in all its glory:rolleyes:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding BBC ONE's 'Doctors' from 7 January
2009.

I understand you were shocked by a response given by one character
regarding the hiring of a student to look after a child and you feel a
better suggestion would have been a registered professional.

Please be assured it was never our intention to demean the role of
childminders and registered childcare professionals and I'm sorry to read
that you interpreted the episode in this way. In scripted drama sometimes
the responses said by our characters may be more in keeping with that
fictional character's own personality rather than what the viewers might
deem more suitable. I'd also like to further assure you that your
complaint has now been registered on our audience log for future
reference.

We're committed to developing better links with you, our audience, to
further enhance our understanding of your viewing needs and the audience
log is important in achieving this. It's an internal report of audience
feedback which we compile daily and is available for viewing by all our
staff. This includes all programme makers, commissioning executives and
also their senior management. It ensures your points, along with all other
comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

I received this this morning too.

Dear Mrs Moorhouse

Thanks for your e-mail about 'Doctors' broadcast on 7 January.

I understand that you believe the programme made an inaccurate remark about the ease in which student can become childminders.

Drama programmes such as 'Doctors' aren't always best served by meticulous attention to detail and a certain amount of dramatic licence can be involved in trying to capture the essence of a profession or an issue and then conveying this to an audience. We appreciate that even the smallest straying from accuracy can be irritating to some viewers (particularly those with experience of the profession mentioned) but there are constraints which mean that we can't or don't always want to keep as closely to the level of detail that some viewers would like us to.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your strong feelings about this so I'd like to say I've registered your comments on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's circulated to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.

All feedback we receive, whether positive or negative, is always appreciated.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact the BBC with your concerns.

Regards

Denise

Got a response as well - more or less saying the same - that whilst they didn't intend upset or to infer that students could be used as minders they use a certain amount of dramatic licence and try to stay true to the characters and that hopefully people do not take to heart what the characters are saying as they are fictional.
All complaints are taken seriously and blah blah.....

Hmmm are be Beeb being a bit niaeve here? But at least they have responded.
