best thing to do is check your local cis website and search what childminders are charging in your area for both hourly and daily rate.

Im going ot charge hourly ....dont want to use a set fee (but i prob will end up doing that lol)

im planning also to charge breakie, lunch and dinner

free fruit and milk for snacks

Been a cm for 14yrs now and so far have always charged an hourly rate. one for up to 20hrs per week and a bit less(50p per hour) for over 20
I am thinking of charging a set rate for after school cause i seem to be getting a lot who muck around from day to day eg collect at 5.30 one day and 4.30 another cause it costs less so thinking about a flat fee for 3 to 5.30
cause if I have achild they fill the pm anyway. say£15 for the session.

My fee includes all food etc all I ask to be provided on top is nappies cause every parent has diff ones and sizes so I label them and keep the all in a cupboard. I find things clearer this way. No probs with them fogetting to bring stuff or questions over extras on the bill.

Hpoe this helps.

Depends on the area you are in I guess. The best way as someone has suggested is to check out your local CIS website. I only charge an hourly rate but do charge a slightly higher rate for before and after school care which reduces in school holidyas to the same rate as everyone else.

I do daily, weekly, half days, and hourly rates.

My daily rate is based on reasonable hours i.e. between 8am - 6pm and is £20.00

I do a half day rate especially with older children and split it from 8am - 1pm and 1pm - 6pm

I discount a full week if the child comes full time

I have found that people stay with me as costs are reasonable and even increase the days. I know i could charge more but i know i have a steady income and if someone has a full day rate and picks up early they still get charged the full day.

Mine are varied but are based on session rates as I found that parents were picking and choosing part of the day. These are some of the rates I currently have:

8am - 6pm £35.00 if 5 days, £38.00 for 3 or 4 days and £40.00 for 1 or 2 days plus food

7.45 - 2.30 and 1 - 6pm £25.00 per day plus food

7.30 - 9.00 breakfast club including breakfast £7.50

3.10 - 6pm after school £14.00 per day for 5 days, £15 for 3 or 4 days and £17 for 1 or 2 days plus food

These rates are flexible but if a parent asks for cover until 4.30 where do I get someone else to take the space until 6? All my parents are having with this and pay it no problem as they want the space - most of the time the children are gone by 5.30pm and I also don't have to charge late fees as they are never late.

Hi Jessiebessie,

My opening hours are going to be 7.30am - 6pm. I was going to have a daily rate of £25 and an hourly rate of £3. Though having read this thread I now like Rickysmiths idea of up to and over 20 hours rates, will have to do a bit of local research. I'm also going to have a re think about before/after school rates.

My local rate is between £3.00 and £4.10 per hour so im going for £3.75 p/hr. My local breakfast club charge £3.00 and afterschool club is £6.00 which i cant really match :(
