OMG....

I had my inspection this morning....I was so scared!!!

I got outstanding in all areas

I have to say the BIGGEST thankyou to all you wonderful wonderful people..without you all I would never ever in a million years got an outstanding. Half of the ideas in our setting have come from this forum and without the support, advice and reassurance from here I may have given up ages ago!! SO THANKYOU

My inspector was VERY hot on child protection and asked me lots of questions. She also said that a new thing they are checking is that you have in writing who has legal responsibility for the child. Medication forms she quizzed me about thoroughly..she said that a blanket permission for calpol was no longer acceptable and that you had to have it signed BEFORE any calpol was given (so basically not allowed to give them calpol unless you know that morning that they may need a dose and can get it pre signed).

She was really impressed with our home boxes. The self registration chart. The setting scrapbook, our newsletter, how well I was co-ordinating with other settings, my fire drill log, my temp charts, the tuff tray...ALL these ideas came from here.

Good luck to everyone else who has there inspection looming.

SO glad it is over

thanks :D

She was with us just over 2 hours..much shorter than usual apparently as I had spent ages on my SEF

I do a monthly newsletter. With what we have been doing over the last month, what we have planned for the next month. A photo gallery. Any reminders or grumbles..eg please don't forget to bring coats. Any birthdays. Arrivals or people leaving etc. DON'T forget to get parental permission!

ell done. What a wonderful start to the christmas celebrations!:)

Could you explain where you put the bit about legal contact and parental responsibility. Can't work out where it best fits without sticking out like a sore thumb. Wish the contracts had it on.
Thanks.

Do you have some kind of child information booklet? Where you collect info about doctor's details and parents work numbers and children's likes and dislikes?

I have added a section to that :D

Yes I do. I will reword the Record of information and slot it in there rather than have it tagged on the end

So very very well done to you you have worked really hard and deserve it :magnificent: :cheerleader: :happy banana: :excited:

On the subject of Calpol I can't believe what they have said, how are parents expected to know that during the course of a given day their child may develop a temperature or ear ache etc? - I think that is a silly comment what is wrong with having blanket permission and then doing our best to get parental permission by phone before administering the medication. I don't go giving medication willy nilly to a child and if a child tells me they have a pain - I go down lots of distraction routes before I would even dream of getting in touch with a parent to seek their permission to administer it but surely we have to be trusted to do our best by children and to know when to administer pain/temp relief when a child is obviously ill - I would be so scared of a child going into a convulsion due to a high temperature and ending up hospitalised all because I couldn't give them a single dose of calpol.  I would always do my utmost to contact either parent before hand and would get them to sign for it on collection.

15-01-2009, 01:36 PM
you could do, but a tuff tray seems to be alot bigger like a lid of a big plastic car tyre tub if you know what i mean, but it depends how big you need it (how many children you have and what your putting in it) :)
