Just a quick one.

How much do after school clubs tend to charge per child?

I have just had an enquiry (meeting the lady on monday) as her daughter is not enjoying the club at all and has asked for a childminder. it will be 3.15 pick up til 4.30 or 5.30 It will vary each day but will be told in advance what days are what.

So firstly...

What do I charge, My hourly rate is £3.50.

Secondly,

As she is 8 and not affecting my current numbers at all would it be unfair to contract the parent to a 3-5.30 when she has said she will sometimes finish early, should I bill her for actual hours her daughter is here or stick to standard 'if you may need the hours you have to pay for them?

What would you all do

Thaks Girlies... and any men :D

our after school club charges £7-50 and parents have to pick them up at 5.30pm or before put still have to pay full price

i charge my hourly rate for what hours they use

in this situation if it were me i'd charge up to 5.30pm as this is what time she might pick her child up

someone else mayoffer a different opinion at the end of the day do what feels right for you as it is your business

I'd definitely charge until 5.30 as you won't be able to fit anyone else in for the other hour you are open - this shouldn't be a problem if she's used to paying for the after school club

Have a look on the cis website - that should have details of the clubs on it. Failing that ring the club and ask

Good luck - hope you get it

I would also charge up till 5.30

Not sure about the charges for after school club but if you are trying to compete then do not worry

She can get tax credits that will pay for most of the childcare anyway so if her daughter is really unhappy she is very unlikely to complain about your prices

Good luck

I charge a minimum of 2 hours after school so they all pay til 5:15 even if they leave earlier. You could always do that if you wanted and just add on the extras for the nights she stays til 5;30 onto the next invoice

I am taking on a new 8 year old and as mum doesn't know how many hours a week she will need we have agreed a minimum weekly payment. Any hours she uses over this I will add to the next invoice. I have made it clear that whilst at the moment I have no intention of minding up to the amount of children my insurance will allow, if I did in the future we will have to amend the contract to more specific hours. Hope that makes sense

Hi,
New to the forum but not to childminding.

I would charge til 530pm. Lots of after school clubs are not registered so parents can't claim tax credits but they can if you are registered.

Hope that helps,
Jo.

I charge my after schoolies £3ph although I recently put my fees up to £3.50 I did not for all before/after school children as our pre/after school clubs fees work out at £3 and I didn't want to price myself out of the market, it this case though it seems like the child is unhappy so if mum's happy to pay.....

I would definitely charge till 5.30 every day though.

I am a Newbie and don't have any after schoolers (yet!) However this thread set me thinking so this afternoon I phoned my local school (the one I would do drop-offs/pick-ups at) and asked about thier after school club.

Morning - 7.30am-8.50am includes cereal, toast, and fruit juice £3.50

Afternoon - 3.30pm-6pm includes snack and drinks £5.00

How can I ever hope to compete with that??

Hi there,
I have a 12 mth old baby girl who comes to me two days a week from 8.00am-6.30pm. I charge her Mum £2.70 per hour until 6.00pm. then I charge her £1.35 for the half hour after 6.00pm. should I be charging NICMA's rate of £3.20 or half of £3.20 which is £1.60? Confused!

I don't try to compete with after school club prices.
A. I have to cover cost of petrol
B. I will have them after 6pm if needed ( clubs won't )
C. If they are with me at 5pm they will get a home cooked meal.
D. After school clubs won't have them in the holidays/inset days/polling days e.t.c.

I charge a minimum of £10 even if they're only here an hour. My after school places are full even though all the local schools have a club as does the Y.M.C.A locally. Some parents appreciate the flexibility that we can provide.
