What sort of activities do you do for Bonfire Night?

Tar Barrel people!

Yes, you're all probably say "WHAT???"

November the 5th is the best day of the year here.

Oh back to the activities, we make people out of card and sick clothes made out of fabric scraps on them then give them a tar barrel made of a piece of kitchen roll tube and make flames using tissue paper.

I do a bonfire picture cut stripes of tissue paper about 6in long orange,red,yellow and stick onto paper as flames some all stuck down and some only half stick on so leaving top part hanging 3D effect can be very effective.

On black card put on glue and sprinkle with glitter to look like fireworks in the night sky.

Cut kitchen roll holder in half decorate to look like firework

Firework pictures are great too.

You need black card and PVA glue and glitter. Just drizzle the glue on the card and sprinkle the glitter on. Fabulous.

I saw some fab rocket sausages in a magazine the other day. Cooked sausges cut in half and stuck length ways onto a cocktail stick with a triangle of pepper push on the top. They looked really cute.

Lucy, your tar barell people sound cute. I've even got an old pair of jeans needing to be binned so I can cut out denim strips for trousers.:D I was thinking of doing a big Guy Fawkes with some of hubby's old clothes and rolled up newspaper, too. Love the idea someone mentioned of bonfire pics with orange, red and yellow paper.

I've also found lots of cute ideas for firework crafts like coloured pasta and noodles (ramen noodles would be great cos they're curly) for a 3D fireworks picture; the glitter and glue pics mentioned above; making Catherine Wheels with metallic pipe cleaners and bending into shape; rockets out of kitchen roll tubes (someone mentioned those too) covered in metallic paper.

Can you have too many bonfire night projects or do you think it's okay to have 1 a day?! I'm feeling spoilt for choice at the moment!

I've hit upon a good thing for bonfire night by accident today :D

We were painting cabbage leaves and printing with them, one of the ones with bubbles in (savoy is it?!) and when you paint the bobbly side and print it, they look just like fireworks!
Would be even better in neon or glitter paints and on black/navy paper.

We make chocolate sparklers - choc finger biscuits dipped quickly in hot water and then rolled in 100's and 1000's - yummy

Think this was one I pinched from Angel last year :)

I haven't tried this yet but it looks great. Got it off of Activity Village.

You dissolve sugar in warm water and then dip chalk into the water before drawing on black paper. Apparently, it makes the photo all glisteny. Wish I had some chalk here (keep forgetting to buy some) so I could experiment.

i tried this one!

sugar water and chalk ....

its rather messy, the pictures (and the children) are rather sticky, and i don't think the chalks will ever be the same again!:laughing:

BUT, we had a really good time, and i hope i will have an excellent firework display on my cupboard doors, once i have given them all time to dry!!!
