I hope you can help me, a childminder friend of mine been minding about year, i have helped her loads. Talking to her the other day (by the way development worker been out once to her) she said she was worried about her tax, i asked why she said she didnt think she was claiming enough back :panic: she didnt no you could claim for toilet rolls, wear and tear, drinks, food, loads of things i feel so sorry for her shes thinking of giving up because it seems to much for her. I am helping her but i was wondering if there was a list anywhere of what we can claim for so she feels like she doing it herself.:panic: :panic:

Is she a member of the NCMA - they do a handbook which covers tax and expenses - I'll dig it out later and have a closer look but see if this helps:-

hi i use the NCMA accounts book and do it all myself and it mentions a few expences in the front, tell her if she spends a penny on d mindees put it in the book and £10 n over needs reciepts,

tell her to keep going, she will get the hang of it, for a yr i didnt account for toiletries, baby wipes soap, sweets n treats little things but now i account for the air i breath lol

oh can any one remember how much we can clain on petrol/travel as the cost to run a car has gone up! 40p mile seems very low? i'd be better off getting taxis and claiming the lot ?

I take it she is claiming for mileage or depreciation on the car?

Wear and tear is based upon 10% of the total income and that amounts to quite a bit

She can claim a % of council rates, water rates, gas and electricity with all this being detailed in the NCMA book.

I made a list up with my group but it is in no way approved by the tax office but it might give her a starting point. If you pm me I will send it to you but specify if you want it in excel or word.

It says in front of NCMA account book that you can claim for rent but not a mortgage.
