They have to be filled in if they are used or accessible by children.

I have bannisters but they aren't close enough together so they had to be filled in with board.

My ex was devastated ... one of the reasons he bought the house

A childminder friend of mine had to put board on the landing as her spindles were to far apart, so I can't see ofsted being ok with it, sorry

I had to replace my spindles as I wasnt prepared to put board up. Expensive business. Hubby not impressed. But it looks nicer now.:D

My house is ex-council and the stairs are boarded. Would like to change to spindles but won't while minding, saves the hassle.

When we put a room in the loft I had to change the builders design slightly so I could fix a gate at the bottom of those stairs !

Make sure they are close enough together so that little heads don't get wedged in between!

right...

Had a price of £210 to have banister fitted, my question now is do i need to have this done BEFORE my ofsted inspection or can i just tell them at the inspection that it's going to be done??

It's a lot of money to pay out for me not to be approved
?????????????????

If you don't have it done before your pre-reg you will get a notice to improve, with a date by which it must be done and it might hold up your registration if the work isn't finished...

But at least you will know all the other checks are ok first :D
