I received a letter from Early Years today complete with short form asking my name, address etc but it was offering Free Resources of either a Digital camera and Printer OR Digital Blue Movie Maker OR MP3 Recorder/Player.

All I need to do is fill in the form and say how the resources will benefit my setting.

Just wondering if anyone else received this letter or if it is just a Staffordshire thing?

Hi Carol

could it be something to do with the Capital grant thing. I've not seen anything official on paper yet, but listening to my DO it sounds like that's how we apply for things in Stoke

What it says on the letter is it's from Children & Lifelong Learning Directorate Early Years.

The money is from the Government to Local Authorities to support EYFS.

If no one else has had this then maybe I'll stand a chance in getting a freebie:D

Never heard a thing about it up here. :( Could do with someone else paying for a camera, then the memory stick. Hmmm and maybe the cost of printing.
Anything free would do me! Although i'd want the lot, im greedy!lol

Probably a little pot of money they've gotten to support delivery of ICT. I got a free Easi-Speak microphone a few weeks ago for the same reason. It's really cool! Hope you get your new resources!

What's a blue movie? Must be an anglicism as I'm not familiar with the reference? I'm guessing either porn or snuff.

How about this.

That the camera would allow you to develop your observations and allow children in your care to develope ICT and media skills.

charleyfarley

At first I thought we'd all get something, as I skimmed read it  Have a habit of doing that.

Think they just pick so many for each item so our answer needs to be good

Don't know what to go for yet though. going to see if i can find out the type of printer - i wouldn't want it if it's one of those that the ink cartridges cost more than the printer!

No I got nothing - the playgroups round here all got £8,000-£10,000 grant to buy new equipment one I know of bought new carpets and another is replacing all their existing large equipment e.g book shelves, tables, chairs, playhouse and climbing frame with more of the same and I bought a climbing frame from them which is in fab condition and am waiting for a book shelf to become free - parents are buying tables and chairs and one parent got the playhouse - its just not fair that childminders here have been given absolutely nothing because we are restricted by numbers and therefore have much less money in the pot to buy all the necessary equipment we are required to have - again we are at the bottom of the heap - no wonder some parents treat us like something nasty that has got stuck to the sole of their shoes.

im in surrey and i got my letter about a month ago asking if i wanted a:

laptop

digital camera

photo printer

and scanner

i said yes to all of it, even though i have my own stuff, i would prefer to have it seperate from all mine.

This is through the EYFS capital grant, so sounds really good.

We have to go on a course to show us how to use it first.

I had this letter at the beginning of October for a digital camera/printer, blue movie maker (I know, my hubby thought this was very funny) and microphones, which I chose. I was granted this and should have gone to collect it last Weds but didn'y because of the snow. Going after xmas now. I'M IN Staffs too.

Just got mine, searched the web and found a place that gives a good price on paper and cartridge package, but I think it could be quite expensive to use it a lot.

I went for the Digital Blue cus my daughter's been using them at school and said they were fab. Wasn't sent the Digital Blue but was sent a little camcorder - fab - really good quality - chuffed to bits.
