Approximately 50 hours a week.

Just interviewed a parent who wants to start some mornings at 6.30am & occassionaly finish at 7.30pm (less often for that one). If I do that then I will not only be mad but working 55+. She said she wanted to come with me although I haven't heard back from her - I won't be too upset if she doesn't come back.

My body is struggling with a 7:30 start, by today the ones that arrive at this time had huge bags under their eyes:( at least they can chill eating toast reading or playing with homely comforts

worked out my actual income for those hours and it was just under this, so of course with expenses taken off, a definitive answer for all those parents who say oh but you are on way more than me per hour cos of the numbers of kids - that it's working out as LESS than minimum wage what I take as earnings!!!!

Will be the same for most Scottish minders too as we are so limited in numbers :censored:

You're going to be so jealous. I only work about 16 hours a week!! That's with the children actually here. Obviously I do the paperwork evenings and weekends too. I honestly do not know how you all do it. I did it when I was in my 30's and 40's but I'm 56 now and I think it would kill me! I will have to work much longer hours eventually and by then I'll be even older. I've had a really nice start back into working with my two who come at 9:15am and go at about 3pm. As little acorns said, you can't have any lunch without getting up and down all the time, you can't go to the loo or chat on the phone or go to the shops in your lunch hour. People just do not realize do they. I think you are all amazing working so many hours at such a fabulous but hard job. I used to do 55/60 hours a week but I really don't know if I could now.

55 hours a week for 2 weeks and then 65 the third week (as I have 2 siblings every third Saturday). I make roughly £7.50 an hour when averaged out :( but I have not included courses, paperwork, planning, shopping for resources... And shall I count my dreams in my working hours, too since I in some way dream about it most nights, too?

Yeah i do 8-6 every day so thats 50 hours a week that the children are actually here, not including all the extra stuff.

I am also doing my DHC so thats taking a lot of my time at the moment.

Hubby does a normal 9-5 job so 37 and a half hours, yes he gets an hours for lunch, and he is home before i have even finished so he does help out and he does the ironing and other stuff as i just dont have the time.

Add to that he is doing a college course too one night a week, My son does football and Tae kwondo, and my daughter does Ballet, tap, and jazz, its a wonder anyof us ever see each other lol.

My weekly hours:

Contracted hours (Mon to Thurs): 44 hours
Clean and prep before they arrive (Mon to Thurs): 2 hours
Tidy and wash up after they go (Mon to Thurs): 3 hours
Taxes, research, printing, policies, observations, planning time, assignments (DCP): 10 hours (at least - in the evenings and wkend)
Friday job (including commuting): 11 hours

Weekly total: 70

Add courses (online and in the eve/Sat)/network meetings/conferences etc. onto this and we all, on average, work over 70 hours a week for sure.

I used to work these hours in my old full-time design job too (note my Fri job is a design job), but at least now I am HOME :) Far far better than before!!!

But why is it that parents think that if you don't have their lo for the day you are getting a day off. One of my parents books hours per month due to shifts and has booked less hours this month due to the fact my fees went up after ny hols and they have just had a huge expense to pay out for. (she was honest as to why less hours) so for today and tomorrow having lo from 12 - 4.30 and said oh well at least you can have the morning off. I don't think so I start at 8 tomorrow morning and finish at 5 so where does that morning off come in!!!!

Then she says oh do you fancy doing some babysitting on Thursday evening cash in hand as you won't have worked many hours as she has to go out she runs a group and need sto be there will take children but prefers them to be in bed) so I said oh sorry no but I am busy - cheeky whatsit not worked many hours indeed
