I left school with no qualifications, a complete drop out. Had my kids and now a childminder. I completed my NVQ 3 ccld on Monday - I absolutly loved it! Assessor was great and we will remain firm friends. She suggested I do EYPS next, I laughed but she was serious. So did a bit of digging, realised my council had funding available for me to do this.
Now, 4 weeks later, I have just enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Childrens and Young Peoples Services. Its a part-time course (one Thursday morning a week and 1 saturday a month) that gives me the qualifications to do a BA Honours in Early Years and leading me onto EYPS. And I can still childmind in between.
I am so happy, as I always wanted to go to University. I never thought I was good enough. I also think this is going to be a great example to my own children. They came with me to look round and they loved the fact there was a waterstones book shop on sight, with Charlie and Lola Characters in the window.
It just goes to show if you work hard and want more, its out there.
