I love Tapestry and so do my parents, it works for me. But different systems work for different people. Try the free trial, that's the best way to see if it is going to work for you.

Can you back date an ob? Looking at tutorials then going to do trail. My parents have used in past and currently with nursery and like it x

You can edit an obs, so you can change the date- is that what you mean?

Yes so if Ive missed an ob from previous week I can add.

So many questions. Im trying to make life easier as LJs just getting delayed and backlogged due to personal commitments. This means I could do when out and about. I know some CMs don't do journals or can manage paper ones but Im getting stressed and need to have something simple and effective. I also need something to show Oftsed something that looks more professional and parents alike. Heard good things and know parents like it so hope Ofsted do too. Scared of making new steps but sure this would be good for me if easy to use. xxx

I use 2simple for my obs, which i then email ( from within 2simple ) parents each month. They can upload their own photos/responses.
I also email them to child's other settings.

Tbf, I never have used this sort of thing and I’m hugely suspicious of technological 'solutions', especially when there’s no real 'problem' to be solved.

I’ve heard from nursery staff who expressed some reservations, which I paraphrase here.....

The "professional look" of these things is potentially problematic. It can easily result in the victory of style over substance. Do they add functional value to what you’re doing, or just impressing the easily-impressed.... "oooooh, shiny!" ???

They also seem to create unnecessary needs. The top complaint I’ve heard from nursery workers is that online journals lead parents into expecting more and more updates on supposed "achievements". That’s more, not less, time spent on (paperless) paperwork, and mums fretting their respective children are "failing" if they don’t tick off developmental milestones on a near-daily basis.

I use mine mainly to send ( yet more ) photos to parents with maybe an odd line about what they were learning or suggestions for further activities!

But what parents like are photos!

Having done both, I prefer pen and paper.

I currently use tapestry, it's easy to use and I like that I can do obs on the go, plus get good feedback from parents...
HOWEVER, if I haven't done an observation for a day or two I get 'is tapestry not working?' simply because they come to expect something on a daily basis :(
I'm considering reverting back to paper in the new year and simply sending photos directly to parents.

I found also the parents just prefer the photos.i can’t see the point paying out for tapestry when all the parents are really interested in is photos.I have reduced my paper work a lot because as I told my inspector when she done my inspection recently was that the writing was purely for my benefit as parents were not interested.Photos with words about what’s going on in the photo goes down well. The inspector said as long as you can say where the child’s at and is progressing that’s fine.
Everyone is different and I do know some childminders love Tapestry, looks more professional then my writing !

I’ve just started using Tapestry and am not very confident yet. Can anyone tell me is it possible to take one photo then write a group observation connecting several children but with separate goals for each child?

Oh goodness, mine are lucky to get one a month!
