Were the holidays all you expected them to be - whether good or bad?

Ours have been fine. We've been a bit busy this last couple of weeks with boring stuff and so had set aside today and yesterday to do something nice, but DD has had a temperature and no appetite, so we had a sofa day yesterday, and probably will do today too. The weather is perfect for once- not oppressively hot but not bucketing down either, but never mind. We're reading a great book - The Silver Sword - a childhood favourite of my own. She doesn't always enjoy my childhood favourites (I don't either when I revisit them) but we're both loving this one, so we're having mammoth story sessions instead of day trips.

I've been doing lots of school work ready for Monday (no kids until Wednesday though).

There were a couple of people we had wanted to catch up with over Summer but didn't manage to. It's always the way. We might squeeze in a couple of science experiments/engineering projects that we had planned back in July.

Did you get everything done that you had planned to do?

Sorry to hear your DD not feeling up to enjoying the last few days of the hols. We are off till Wednesday next week and the weather is looking good here too so hoping to make the most of it. I love the freedom of school hols and don't relish them going back to the daily routine of school. You reminded me about childhood books in your thread, Last Christmas I managed to get hold of the first 4 books I read on my own as a child. I had a week off and read them all again and enjoyed them all over again. One was a present from an auntie, it was the first paperback book I'd ever had. Great to revisit your childhood sometimes

Aww it's horrible when little ones are poorly :( I hope she improves quickly!!

We've had a strangely bitty holiday with children off at different times so they've not always had their friends here which makes it tricky for them. We are very lucky they all get on well with each other though and we've done lots of lovely outings with them.

We have also been busy preparing our new venture for the new term - Budeez | Out of School Club (http://www.budeez.co.uk). We will be running it alongside childminding.

Wishing you all a happy Autumn term :clapping:

Gosh Sarah, how exciting! I wish you lots of luck. The website is lovely.

I'm glad you enjoyed the books Sylvia. There's a lot of talk about children's books having been 'dumbed down' (not my phrase). I can't decide if this is a good thing or not, or whether it is true or not and that books have simply evolved. I tried reading a Famous Five book the other week, and The Secret Garden to DD and she was so bored, we didn't finish them - they just seemed so slow and wordy. I can't believe I used to love them.

DD is better, thank you. DH now has it though. I have to say, he is making a whole lot more fuss than DD did, bless him. He was sick at 5am. Don't mean to sound selfish, but I really hope I don't get it. If I do I want to get it today or tomorrow. I can't be ill on the first week back!

A good summer here, on the whole. The holidays seem to be coming to an end suddenly; can hardly believe they’re back at school in a few days' time.

Managed to get away for a few days, plus a trip to Legoland with the children. I’ve always wanted to go, but have to say it was a mixed experience and I wouldn’t go again by choice.

The weather has meant I haven’t missed a single day’s play at the cricket. :clapping: Also seen some good films.

A bit depressing to see (once more) children whom I had for Early Years who have had much of their individuality and self-reliance squeezed out of them by a mere 10 months of schooling. :(

I’ve lost two schoolies for September, rather unexpectedly: at least they’re going to become infrequent ad hoc attendees rather than regulars. One EY child is switching to school runs. I might lose another as parents have split up and they’re looking for a new school.

Good luck with Budeez. It all looks fantastic.

If you don’t mind me asking........

1. Why the elephant?

2. I notice you say you "....welcome toilet trained children....". Have you had any opposition around this point? I’m interested because my village preschool is facing complaints that their similar policy is discriminatory or even illegal. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts and how to counter such allegations.
