Can anyone suggest an activity to do with a 16 month old to develop there social skills. I have done an observation based on there social interaction, and what they do is normal for there age, but there were no other areas for concerns, my tutor suggested the activity in eyfs about getting photos of all the children, and being in a group, talking about them and making 16 mnt old part of it, but find this a bit difficult as I only care for my daughter and 16 mnt old. I cannot think of anything else, other than getting him out and about visiting places, but this isn't really a specific activity. Just can't work this one out.
any advice would be much appreciated

How about something simple like mealtime. Thats an activity in itself and a great time for socialising.

Or a teddy bears picnic with some other kids.

Have you read about communication friendly spaces?

It involves encouraging children to make dens or tents or other cosy corners where they can interact in small groups, with adults or other children.

I just googled it and came up with lots of useful hits ... it's very much the rage at the moment.

Hope it helps :D

I'll move this to Minding Chat for you as you will probably get more response there.

(This area is where folks discuss their training and courses)

i love this! i went to see an exhibition in Cardiff! There was a lovely CFS based in the igloo tent from ikea! they put soft cuddly toys inside and small boxes containing natural objects like fir cones.

i tried one in our play house outside. i put down a large blanket and cushions to make it comfy. i put in a basket filled with beanie bears and underneath there were lots of coloured scarves! my mindees aged 2 and 3 loved it! they closed the door and i sat outside listening to them chatting and saying ahhhh when they looked in the basket and found the scarves. then they came out and danced round the garden with the scarves!!

you can make a CFS in the smallest area. try to keep it quite enclosed so the children don't feel like you're watching them closely. add lights - those press ones with batteries in are good or torches.
